Yuri Anime: Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl

April 6th, 2006

Let’s start from the beginning, shall we? I wanted to end the previous season before I took a look at the new season of yuri anime and I thought that Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl was a good place to start as it was a remarkable ending.

The Kashimashi anime moved in a totally different direction than the manga has taken. I can’t say that it was a bad thing. Without giving away any of what’s going on in the manga (I’ll wait for Volume 3 to come out for that) I can say that the anime had only one seriously weak plot complication, where the manga has that and at least one more and the chance that it may develop into two more.

More importantly, the anime ended. I mean – it *resolved*. Decisions were made, choices were finalized – it ended. For real.

No, really. I mean it.

Hazumu remains a girl and chooses one of the two girls who loves her. It was so…normal.

Think of all the dumb things that could have happened: Hazumu turning back into a boy was the one I was waiting for. But she didn’t. How weird is that?

In fact, then ending was so normal – so much like a thing that might have actually happened in real life (with the one exception of the silly plot complication, if you’ve seen it, you know what I mean) that it kind of just went under the radar. No outcry of “OMG! An anime actually ENDED! With a RESOLUTION!”

Instead there was a huge silence. So – after all these years of watching crappy unresolved restart endings we FINALLY get a real ending and it’s a yuri ending where the girl remains a girl and get the girl and…thud. Nothing.

Go out and watch the damn ending already! ^_^ We can call it Kashimashi Girl Gets Girl.

So why should Loser Fanboys be upset about Hazumu remaining a girl? I thought they were all for Yuri fanservice… and I guess that includes Yuri endings.

At least I don’t mind it in the slightest, and I’m as loser and as fanboy as one can get. Shame on me.

you should quit your job for giving this lame ass report on this great anime.

    KISS MY ASS, BITCH

  3. 1) This isn’t a job, except for when people like you get rude for no good reason.

    2) Because YOU have the luxury of commenting on it after you have seen it all, and when I wrote this, I had not seen it all – and you had not seen it at all. My opinion changed as the anime went on, as it frequently does, and changed again as the OAV episode came out.

    3) You kiss your mother with that mouth? What have I done to you to deserve such foul language, really.

  5. First off, geez, people get really testy with their anime, huh? (referring to impolite reviewer, Yaya-chan, who I’m assuming finds Strawberry Panic! to be a masterpiece of a romance judging by their comment and manners)

Kashimashi was pretty decent, for what is was, which was a mediocre romantic-comedy. Or comedy-romance, whichever suits one’s tastes.

However, for the anime, I really think kudos should go to the score. It made scenes that could have potentially be irksome, silly boring into something more. Take the scene where Tomari and Hazumu remember their proposal as children. Honestly, I would have rolled my eyes and yawned, but the BGM really hooked me right into it. The same with the kiss scenes in the classroom and at the train stations. It really romanticised what normally would have been a frustrating wait to see these people FINALLY kiss.

I tried explaining the slight incredulity I experienced while watching the 13th episode to a friend.

I randomly asked her ‘What would you think if you saw an anime with a closing sequence showing two brides, a girl dressed like Santa Claus, an alien dressed like an angel, a meganekko and a generic brown-haired pervy boy all flying off into the night sky in a sleigh pulled by intergalactic reindeer?’

Her response: ‘Now which harem anime is this?’
