Yuri News Report – April 25, 2009

April 25th, 2009

Thanks for your patience while we had fun with (and without) you last week. We’re back today with a pile o’Yuri news!

Yuri Manga

Aoi Hana, Volume 4 is coming. Don’t shudder with anticipation too much, it’s bad for your joints. Jump up and down instead – your heart could use the exercise.

Azumanga Daioh is poised to have a 10th anniversary and the author is celebrating a new manga edition by penning three new chapters to entice you to buy it.

Yuri Anime

Apparently the first DVD of the 4th season of Maria-sama ga Miteru had massive sound and extra issues, which made all the fanboys mad.

Strawberry Panic box sets are coming out in English. They are, of course!, on the Yuricon Shop for your convenience.

This is kind of interesting – Sean points out that Gakuen Alice is playing on the Anime Network. That means there was a dub, I guess. I think it’s interesting that that series got a dub, but did not make it onto network TV in the usual hacked up form shoujo usually has to go through to make it to TV.

Other Yuri News

Tadeno Eriko, Yuri manga artist, creator of WORKS, and contributor to the Yuri Monogatari anthology, wants you to know that she is part of a new lesbian erotica group. Art and stories are up for your viewing pleasure – in Japanese.

Did the company issue a statement saying that these quality errors were intentional and that they’re saving the proper editions for a future set release? That’s happened to us before.

  2. 2Ted – this was the japanese release. The company simply ignored the problem and never said anything, apparently.

  3. And so I hope that TRSI’s version will have it properly corrected, assuming they hear about the error.

    Pardon my verbosity.

Erica: Apparently the first DVD of the 4th season of Maria-sama ga Miteru had massive sound and extra issues, which made all the fanboys mad.You prompted me to investigate a bit further. A closer reading of the Sankaku Complex post you referenced shows they’re pointing out two problems: one in the first DVD of season 4 as well as one in the recent DVD box of season 1.

It seems to me that the only issue with season 4 DVD 1 is the “mouthless Yumi” Sankaku Complex points out. I went back and rewatched my DVD, and sure enough that is there, but I had to single-step the scene to see it. It looks like this glitch was also there in the broadcast version. I didn’t notice any other problems with the DVD, and honestly didn’t see this one until it was pointed out. It literally is only a single frame in error.

I’m sorry I can’t confirm the other issue, as I didn’t buy the new DVD box set for season 1 as I already have the individual Japanese disks. I will say that Maria-sama ni wa Naishou wasn’t missing from any of them.

So, given that the season 4 DVD 1 error is only a single frame, I wouldn’t expect either the Japanese company or TRSI to do anything about it, but I also don’t feel it’s significant, either.
