Rica ‘tte Kanji!? Omnibus sneak peek

July 8th, 2011

We’re slowly, slowly cranking on the Rica ‘tte Kanji!? Omnibus, and I just wanted to share a page of Rica Takashima’s previously untranslated doujinshi “Cutey Beret” with you.

This story is overtly political and allegorical and just as valid today as it was when she drew it. Enjoy!

Any idea when the omnibus will come out?

  5. Best estimate now is Q1 2012. With some luck, Rica will have the Cutey Beret doujinshi available at New York Comic Con next weekend!

Speaking of the omnibus, I’m looking forward to it! :)

Also, when I read the previous English edition of volume 1, some of that book at the end was wholly *untranslated*. Did the wrong files for those pages get sent to the printer?

Even if those pages were some kind of “hey, check out this event!” thing for the original readers reading in Japanese that was “out of date” by the time it was translated, I’d still have liked to read it to learn a bit more about what things were like at the time – and would like to read it in the omnibus. :)

  7. Those were left untranslated at the request of the creator, for the enjoyment of people who were learning how to read Japanese. In fact, the first of those pages start with a message from her about that.

Those pages will not be included in this edition, but we have a different plan that will give you a lot of background on what Rica was thinking as she created the different sections of the book. You’ll have to wait and see, but trust me, it’ll be fun!

Thanks for the reminder – it was so long ago that I forgot about that note. :/
