Yuri Manga

Morinaga Milk’s Himitsu no Recipe (ひみつのレシピ) from Tsubomi has made it as far as a first collected volume. This fluffy little story about food vs love will hit the streets in August.

Also due in August is Nawoko’s drama, Private Lesson (プライベートレッスン) and Takemiya Jin’s Omoi no Kakera (想いの欠片).

Don’t forget Tsubomi 13 will be on sale, too.

From Ichijinsh, this month you can expect marriage black, Hatsukoi Tectonics (初恋テクトニクス) and Mizu-iro Ether (水色エーテル).

Otome Ranbu (乙女×乱舞) seems a pretty good bet for Yuri fans, as well. It’s a collection of shorts.

So does Concerto (コンチェルト) – just check the cover out.

Snatches of Yuri

Fans of the “Yuri Sekai,” i.e., that so-delicate fake look at the super-secret lives and loves of women, might enjoy Yuri-gokoro (こいごころ), which promises a glimpse behind the veil of secrecy for people who think that exists at all.

Here’s an interesting item – Naname no Ongaku (ななめの音楽), a manga based on a horror novel with, supposedly, some Yuri-ishness.

I keep seeing Banana no Nana (バナナのナナ) on the Yuri lists, but the cover put me off. If you’re buying it, let me know what you think o it!

In the anime world, a LOT of Japanese otaku like to imagine Yuri in the Id@lmaster universe, so I expect they will do the same with the upcoming Idolmaster (アイドルマスター) anime.

YNN Correspondent and Okazu Superhero Dan P. pointed out that Tenjou Utena makes The MarySue’s list of 10 Bad-Ass Gay Characters.

That’s a wrap for this week.

Become a Yuri Network Correspondent by sending me any Yuri-related news you find. Emails go to anilesbocon01 at hotmail dot com. Not to the comments here, please, or they might be forgotten or missed. There’s a reason for this madness. This way I know you are a real human, not Anonymous (which I do not encourage – stand by your words with your name!) and I can send you a YNN correspondent’s badge.

Thanks to all of you – you make this a great Yuri Network!

The ‘Concerto’ link has no cover image. Is it a collection from Hattori Mitsuru? I’ve read some of those and <3 them muchly.

“Based on the manga by Chiho Saito…”

Ahahaha. Oh the IRONY of getting that wrong when the list is what it is!

I now have a mental picture of Saito and Ikuhara staring at this page together on a computer screen. In outrage, each cries out suddenly (and respectively):

    “She’s not gay!!”
    “It’s not a manga adaptation!!”

I’ve added the link to the report. Thanks for the catch.

Banana no Nana is a typical shonen fighting manga whose most significant distinction is that it’s flirting REALLY REALLY HARD with Yuri-ness. I personally doubt it will ever actually cross the line into actual Yuri, but if you’re fond of that genre you’ll probably enjoy it. If not, then I wouldn’t count on the Yuri content to make it palatable.

  5. The girls who compiled the list forgot one more awesome badass gay: the helmsman Bobby Margot in Macross Frontier.

Well Banana No Nana is a pretty interesting manga, because both of the main characters powers pretty much suck. But the mangaka has actual managed to make them pretty interesting. While it is a typical shonen, the fact that mangaka has shown the benefits of having these powers. Just be warned about the constant reminder of this looks so wrong.

@soul.assassin – As well as Kanji Tatsumi from Persona 4. Not even an honorable mention.
