JManga Goes Global

February 28th, 2012

From JManga: “Just got the confirmation!! Thanks to all of your support… www.jmanga.com IS NOW GLOBAL!!!!! WE DID IT!!!!!”

They sound kinda happy about it. ^_^

I’ll pass along more info as I get it, but the upshot is – now all you non-North American Yuri fans can get Yuri manga on JManga, too. ^_^

Here’s my “I told you so”: Every single day, we’re all faced with choices. We can choose to find something positive to think, to do, to feel, or we can find something negative to think, to do, to feel. I’ve talked a lot about how anime/manga fans are so angry all the time – angry well out of proportion to the fact that this is comics and cartoons we’re talking about here. They get angry at companies for not licensing titles and for licensing titles. They get angry when companies make them use one format…or give them options. Fans spend a ridiculous amount of time saying how “no one listens to them” when all the companies are listening – and many of them are responding – but may or may not be able to do a thing just at this moment.

As a wise men said about another topic completely: Not being able to have everything your way all the time is not an indication of being persecuted.

We should all pin this up on a wall we look at often. ^_^

So, we all expressed desire for a doable thing, all of us – you, me, people from around the globe – and look, it happened! You Made A Positive Change. Thank you all for helping.

This is the first step towards a totally new paradigm for anime and manga; a non-region-locked information world. This should be pretty exciting. ^_^

Well, that’s certainly good news. Also in good news, they added Poor, Poor Lips v.2 today. ^_^ Continuing to expand their library (especially, hopefully, their Yuri selection) is going to be key to making this work.

Hurrah! This has made me one happy European Yurifangirl!

“we will certainly be working on getting more Yuri manga on the site…as well as expand to a more global audience, thanks to overwhelming user demand.” When JManga sent me these replies, I honestly did not think it would mean anything and was just typical customer service. Very cool.

    Such happy news!

Just last week I ran across an argument that the twitter/Facebook campaign would fail based on how many FB followers JManga had, or something like that.

Dragging a cloud of pessimism around over your head might count as an ability, but its not the power I would apply for!

As a reader from Latin America allow me to say: YES! I’m very surprised that it happened so soon, but I’m most definitely not complaining. Thanks to everyone who made it possible!

A cautionary note ~ the site going global does not mean every title on the site is global. Just like at Crunchyroll, it will probably take a while until most titles have broader distribution.

For example, at ANN someone from the UK reports that Morita-san comes up with greyed out preview and purchase buttons.

For the three Yuri titles ~ Poor Poor Lips, Girlfriends, and Love My Life, maybe people from different countries should take a look and see whether the preview and purchase buttons are live or greyed out.

“Just wanted to say that MangaNEXT 2012 left me feeling more hopeful about the manga industry and fandom than I’ve felt in years.”

…Sure, it’s still early. But looks like someone’s foresight is on the right track^^

Hmm. I have bought a subscription, but cannot buy Poor Poor Lips, the reason I bought the subscription. Is it not actually available yet?

Yeah, see… The “site” has gone global, but only manga from a couple of the publishers is actually available, and that doesn’t include Poor Poor Lips.

Good job tricking people into subscribing though, Jmanga!

Someone at ANN from the Philippines said of the three Yuri titles, they could only buy Girlfriends.

Anyway, even if you sign up for a free membership, that lets you send in Feedback on site. A wave of “I live in X and would buy Poor Poor Lips if it was available” seems to me like it would be pretty straightforward feedback.
