Sailor Moon Anime Cast is Announced!

April 27th, 2014

SM_CLast night (US time) Nico Nico Douga hosted a live Sailor Moon event and, at last we have the cast announcements and character designs.

Tskino Usagi/Sailor Moon will be once again be voiced by Mitsuishi Kotono.

Mizuno Ami/Sailor Mercury will be taken up by Kanemoto Hisako.

Hino Rei/Sailor Mars is to be played by Satou Rina.

My beloved Kino Makoto/Sailor Jupiter will have the voice of Koshimizu Ami.

Aino Minako/Sailor Venus will be voiced by Itou Shizuka.

Also announced at the event is the lead cast for the second new Sailor Moon Musical, which will play in Tokyo and Osaka, and will include Chibi-Usa and Sailor Pluto (and, therefore, can be ID’ed as the second arc of the manga. ^_^)

Wrapping up PGSM news today, the Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary Memorial Tribute Album is getting vinyl releases, which is an interesting retro appeal to old fans.

The new anime will be streaming on Nico Nico Douga worldwide in 10 languages in less than 3 months….it begins July 5th, 2014.

All in all, I am pleased as punch at the choices. ^_^ These women are all very talented and all likely to give us amazing performances. I’m very much looking forward to the cast announcements for the bad guys!

Huh, it seems fanart of Matoi Ryuko wearing the Sailor Jupiter costume has appeared before any of Makoto wearing Senketsu.

I would have lost THAT bet.

Wasn’t the air date July 5th? Though I’m a little confused by the wording of some of the information I saw floating about. Only two episodes released per month?

I’m so excited for this and the second musical! The character designs look great and the voice actresses are more then ready for the task.

First I’ve heard of the bi-monthly episodes…increased agonizing wait for the next episode aside, I wonder if that bodes good or ill for the quality of the series.

    • In theory it ought to be a good thing. One of the reasons for poor anime quality on TV is that brutal weekly schedule. Biweekly ought to give the animators a chance to actually fix errors before it goes to air.

Just signed up for NicoNico in anticipation. I wonder if the bi-monthly format means that the run time for each episode is longer than normal.

    • I wonder, too. There’s been no episode count, but if it does cleave closer to the manga, 10-12 longer-format episodes will make it through the Dark Kingdom arc with little room for extra fluff.
