Celebrate the New Year with Okazu Lucky Boxes! – Claimed!

January 1st, 2018

Happy 2018! It’s time to celebrate the dawning of a new year with our Okazu ritual sending of Lucky Boxes crammed with Yuri stuff to a few lucky folks! This year, the USPS has downsized the boxes a bit, so the prices have come down accordingly. We therefore have 4 boxes:

Box A – Large, $40.00 – Claimed

Box B – Large, Premium, $50.00 – Claimed

Box C – Medium, $25 – Claimed

Box D – Medium, $25 – Claimed

The boxes are all filled with manga, random Yuri and Yuriish goodies and each one includes a few items picked up in Japan. The candy this year is all Japanese, but the packaging is dull so you’ll have to take my word for it. ^_^; The Premium box has got a few special items in it (obviously, that’s why it’s premium, duh.)

EVERY box has more than the price’s worth of stuff. I can 100% guarantee it’s absolute pure crap, with no guarantees of any other kind. As always, I’m spending the last few moment before packing fitting more stuff in the box.

How to be eligible to buy a Lucky Box: Follow these instructions carefully.

1- You must live in the Continental USA (contiguous 48) only, no APO/FPOs – sorry about that, really.

2 – You must be over 18, I am not policing which books you get.

3 -Email me at anilesbocon01 at hotmail dot com with the subject “Lucky Box”. Use an email you check regularly. *****Please include your name, age, mailing address.  Tell me which box you want.*****

4- I will contact you at that point and give you details about payment by Paypal. Please be prepared to check your email and get payment out so this post doesn’t linger like a dead animal. Thanks in advance.

This whole process will be handled with utmost capriciousness. ^_^

Let’s start the New Year off with some luck and Yuri!

Yuri Network News – (百合ネットワークニュース) – August 1, 2015

August 1st, 2015

Super special exciting news! The new Yuricon Store is officially open!

Yuricon turns 15 this month, and Okazu is 13 years old and going strong and we wanted to do something amazing for this year’s celebration. Because emailing cake and balloons is difficult, we’ve got fun CONTESTS for you, our beloved Okazu readers and fellow Yuri fans, to celebrate our new Store! We’re looking forward to all your entries. ^_^

My heartfelt thanks to our webmaster, designer and all-round genius, Lissa Patillo  for the many many hours of work on the new Store.  And also to her and Meaghan for our lovely Grand Opening Image of Yuricon mascots Yuriko and Midori. ^_^ I am so excited to finally unveil this officially! Enjoy our one-stop shop for everything Yuri.

Now, onto this week’s news! And holy Yuri, there’s some amazing news…

Yuri Games

Mad popular Yuri game Okujou no Yuri Yurei-san has been licensed as Kindred Spirits on the Roof! I may be convinced to try this one, it’s just that popular.

ANN reports that R-INFINITY is planning a Yuri-focused dating sim game.  Go read their report and boggle at all the many horrible wonderful things promised. And remember, it’s always 1980 in Japanese dating sims, and it always will be. Happy endings and lesbians do not go together. Here’s a link to the game’s official site. ^_^;

In return, Twitter informed me that much less unhappy NenoKami: The Princess Knights of Kyoto is already licensed and may be less awful. Also licensed and heading our way is Shadows of Pygmalion.

YNN Correspondent Arca J wrote in to make sure we note that in a bold move from Nintendo, Fire Emblem will include same-sex marriage.

Guess I’ll have to open a new section on the Store, with all these licensed titles, huh? ^_^

LGBTQ Comics

Senior YNN Correspondent Erin S offers this list of LGBT Webcomics to tantalize and entertain you.

LGBTQ Event

Confusion SF in Detroit is specifically looking for LGBTQ cartoonists interested in participating. January 21-24, 2016, take a look at the website and contact Kurt Erichsen.

Other News

Japanese clothing chain UNIQLO is premiering a brand new line of women’s summer yukata, influenced by famous 20th century illustrator Nakahara Junichi, who we know from the elegant covers he drew for Yoshiya Nobuko’s novels.

This excellent overview of the 2015 Eisner Awards by Gina Gagliano on Tor.com,  gives one hope for comics.

Know some cool Yuri News you want people to know about? Become a Yuri Network Correspondent by sending me any Yuri-related news you find. Emails go to anilesbocon01 at hotmail dot com. Not to the comments here, please, or they might be forgotten or missed. There’s a reason for this madness. This way I know you are a real human, not Anonymous (which I do not encourage – stand by your words with your name!) and I can send you a YNN correspondent’s badge.
Thanks to all of you – you make this a great Yuri Network!

Yuricon Mascots Yuriko and Midori by Ana Moreno

Over here at Okazu HQ, we have piles of stuff to give away and although we have contests regularly, sometimes people don’t reply to emails or stuff gets returned unclaimed and we end up with more stuff. So, I find myself with a pile of stuff that is meant to go to you, my dear readers, but it’s sitting here on my floor instead.  So, because I love you all and want you to have stuff, I am doing a contest for…stuff! That’s right, it’s time for another “Get this stuff outta here contest!”

We have a Rose of Versailles Part 2 box set, and a signed copy of Denise Schroeder’s Yuri mini-comic Before You Go and a couple of copies of Marine Corps Yumi, Volume 2 and a pile of odd Yuri manga and other items that will be given away at my whim.

To enter, please follow these instructions carefully:

Email me at yuricon at gmail with the following subject line: Outtahere Contest

Your name
Your shipping address
An email you actually read on a regular basis
Your age (You must be over 13 to enter.)

Winners will be contacted by email only, so don’t check back here for any kind of winners list. This is spring cleaning, pure and simple.

Prizes will be distributed with arbitrary intent and lack of accountability. ^_^ If you win, I’ll let you know something’s coming. Since this is about getting stuff to good homes, if you’ve won recently, sure go ahead and enter. Next contest we’ll be back to recent winners, don’t enter. But for now, sure. ^_^

Thanks for entering and thanks for being such a terrific audience!

Princess Knight Anime, Part 1 – Disk 5 (English) and Contest Winners

November 10th, 2013

As we reach the final disk of the first half of Osamu Tezuka’s  Princess Knight, things heat up significantly for Knight.

After Knight has many adventures (and again meet Satan and his daughter, who is now falling for Knight,) the King sets aside the crown in order to allow Knight to take the throne, but finally, Duralamin’s schemes pay off and Knight is publicly unveiled as a…gasp!…girl. Duralamin throws Knight into jail with her mother and puts his own son on the throne. (One is left to presume that he has paid off all the other nobles of the Kingdom, or surely they’d all be angling to rule.)

Knight finds a way to escape the jail and uses it to fight for her people, who are being cruelly used by Duralamin, as Phantom Knight. The disk leaves us wondering how, not if, she will manage to free Silverland.

And, actually, that was my only “complaint”…if you will. Had I been organizing the disks, I would have ended Disk 5 as Knight and her mother were dragged off to jail. It’s a pretty tense moment and would have made for a compelling cliffhanger. But no one asked me. ^_^

Now that Knight has been outed, I’m actually looking forward to the second half more than this half. Knight can be herself as a whole person as opposed to hiding and having Duralamin and Nylon being creepy about her.  From now on, Knight is a powerful, fearless Princess and just exactly the person who can save Silverland.

Ratings:

Art – 4
Characters – 8
Story – 8 While technically, the low point in the story, it’s a relief to be past the whole “she’s really a girl” nonsense.

Overall – 7

And now, the Princess Knight, Part 1 Box Set Contest Winners!

Joel Keralis
Emily Orr

Please contact me at yuricon at gmail dot com with your shipping addresses and I’ll get you set out to you asap!

Thank you everyone who entered and RightStuf for their generosity in providing these box sets for review and contest.

Reward Yourself! Okazu has Contest and More Lucky Boxes

June 16th, 2013

Some days you just need to reward yourself. And if I can help you to do that, I will. Today, I can help you to reward yourself in not one, but two exciting ways!

First up: We have a contest! (Contest winners have been announced – please don’t enter anymore, thanks!)

Once more RightStuf has been kind enough to give me an extra DVD box set (plus extras!) , this time of the new Hyakko release. Fans of Hidamari Sketch/Sunshine Sketch are sure to enjoy this 4-koma school life comedy.

How to enter: In the comments, give me your name, age and country. Easy peasy. One person will be picked at random. If you’ve won an Okazu or Yuricon contest in the past year, please skip this contest, okay? Let someone else win. ^_^

Normally I let contests drag on, but the winner for this will be announced on this week’s YNN report on Saturday, so get those entries in right away. And if you don’t win, don’t forget you can always buy yourself a copy of Hyakko Complete TV Series Litebox Set. ^_^

***

Secondly: We Have Lucky Boxes!

If you really like getting cool stuff and you really want to reward yourself, I have Grab bag boxes! Just like the last time, these are USPS flat rate boxes crammed full of doujinshi and manga. This time I will have two boxes, one that will include “Adult” doujinshi, one with varying degrees of appropriateness.

Grab boxes are again limited to the US, because of the weight, and to 21+ only, on principle.

Grab Box A  – This one  will be a completely different glimpse into doujinshi than you’re used to. Lots of fluids.   (Claimed)

Grab Box B – This will include a random full anime box set and  doujinshi and manga  –   (Claimed)

We aim to please here, so I promise one thing – you will get well more than your money’s worth. I got loads of stuff here and I want it to not be here any more. I’m motivated to make it fit in that box!

How to be eligible to buy a Lucky Box: Email me at anilesbocon01 at hotmail dot com with the subject “Grab Box”. Please include your name, age, mailing address and which of the Lucky Boxes you want.  I will contact you at that point and give you details about payment. This whole process will be handled with utmost capriciousness. ^_^

There are no limits on these – if  you want more than one say so, because I can just get a bigger box. ^_^ And if you got one the last time and want one again, go for it. The idea is to lessen the piles of stuff here. ^_^

So, contest, or outright junk sale, go ahead – reward yourself!
