Via YNN Correspondent Jst and several others,  ANN Reports that a 3rd Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha movie has been greenlit, but that it is not going to be a StrikerS reboot. The movie, Reflection, will have a new story not based on previous material.  In retrospect I am pleased about that. Unlike the first two series, StrikerS was a fully-formed story that was given plenty of time to develop. A movie of it would not add to the story and might well take away key plot and character development. On the other hand, I’m betting this is just an excuse to pander more to the lolicon audience in Japan, who has shown themselves ready to mortgage their lives to buy this stuff. I hope I’m wrong and they’ll give us grown-up Fate and Nanoha, but I’m not betting money on it.

YNN Correspondent Eric P and others want us to know that, as promised, Ikuhara Kunihiko has unveiled his new anime project, Yuri Kuma Arashi. It’s about a bear that turns into a girl  – in, I would imagine, a surreal animation sequence. Well we don’t know much yet, but we know it’ll be worth taking a look at, anyway. ^_^

More special episodes on the way for Saki Achiga Hen – look for them to stream Episodes 15 and 16 in May. Episode up to 14 are already available for free, legally, with some potential regional restrictions on Crunchyroll.

Japan is getting geared up for the Japanese release of My Little Pony~Tomodachi ha Mahou, with news that HKT48 will be singing the ending theme and an upcoming manga in Pucchigumi magazine.

Yuri Manga

PreFure -Precious Friend – (プレフ) is a schoolgirl like story about friends, much like other school girls friends stories, so some fans see Yuri. At least one Japnese blog says this is really Yuri. I have no idea if that’s true or not. ^_^

Transistor Tea Set (トランジスタティーセット ~電気街路図~) has made it to Volume 5, but I’ll never be able to love it again, unless I get a headless robot maid once more.

Thanks to all of you – you make this a great Yuri Network!

“Headless Robot Maid” is my Polysics tribute band’s name. Might have to find that manga…

    • My punk ani-song cover band name is “Dead Senshi.” ^_^

      • Now you guys have done it. With memories of Psycho-Pass ep4 still fresh in my brain, my sick and twisted muse, giggling maniacally in her ubercute evil way, is forcing me to write the seinen version: Jane Dead who has no head. Headless naked DeadBot slave. Curse you, muse! O_o

Also, headless robot maid bar. In Shibuya or Kabuki-cho. It’s Japan. It’s inevitable. Come to think of it, maybe that should be the name of my next Memetic Terrorists song…

I wasn’t going to go there on the 3rd Nanoha movie news, Erica, but you’re probably right sadly, and I definitely had the same thoughts when I started seeing ‘Not StrikerS’ reports.

Now that I’ve seen the BD of A’s I’m pretty sure we know when the next film will be set timeline wise and it seems like we won’t get to see the awesome adult versions of these characters that makes StrikerS so great.

On the plus side however the A’s movie BD import remains a quality product. The english subs remain capable, on my first viewing I was struck less by the odd choices in some of the translations than the first film but the names continue to run the gamut from standard to amazing in their strange interpretation. I still haven’t spoiled anyone in my mini-reviews around but the ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ mention of poor Amy’s name definitely sent me rewinding in disbelief. However the overall package remains just as recommended as the first movie from all technical aspects.

The story makes smart cuts to fit in the allotted time and the overall product feels right, even with the necessity to alter the story of the A’s series to fit in to a feature length product. Although glaring, these changes in some ways make the result more satisfying and in an odd way, more Nanoha-like (as a way to stay within a zero-spoiler goal).

Importing a movie from Japan given the difference in media pricing (especially compared to NA), it’s hard to jump in sight unseen but take it from this random stranger, the competent subtitles, excellent re-imagining of the story and quality of the blu-ray presentation make this an easy recommendation for all the fans of the series, even at the cost of an import.

(Wow that was longer than I’d intended, sorry about that.)

While I agree with you on the lolicon factor, looking at the positive side of this, we might actually get a more developed take on the accident Nanoha had that was only briefly mentioned in StrikerS. I think that their attempting a full blown movie franchise so we might even get a movie set in their teen years (it was a huge they made between A’s and StrikerS). If we’re lucky, StrikerS may get split up into two films as one critique on StrikerS is how it had so much going on.

One thing is certain, the more Nanoha, the more Fate, hence more NanoFate which is always great in my book.

PS. To whoever does review A’s, I suggest they mention the Lyrical Party IV that came with the Super Special Edition as one of the games the Voice Actresses played was voicing a scene on the spot. Hilarity ensues when they don’t follow the script and might I mention that Mizuki Nana, a fervent NanoFate shipper who was chosen to voice Nanoha in that particular scene (despite being the one who voices Fate), showed some NanoFate love by having Nanoha ask Fate to marry her…. Hopefully this explanation made sense… Very cute moment nonetheless.
