We’ve posted our final video of the first “season” of Yuri Studio and it’s a doozy. This time I take on one of the most complicated questions I get during Yuri panels and lectures. Own Voices – Are There Queer Creators Creating Yuri?
Amazingly, while I was working on this video several creators came out and/or were licensed! I started writing the script with a much smaller group of names than I ended up talking about, so that was pretty amazing. ^_^
I hope you’ll give this video a like and subscribe to my channel for more videos on Yuri.
Thanks very much to all the Okazu Patrons who made this possible. Become an Okazu Patron to have your question answered on the next season of Yuri Studio!
Thank you for the video! It was nice to see the mention of Tasogare again.
Great to see this video finally out, and I’m so happy I could lend a hand with the research! I had no idea the mangaka behind Gunjo, and I Love you so much I hate you/ Hitogoto Desu Kara are openly queer – had heard it said about Morishima but couldn’t find confirmation – will definitely make sure to mention this in future ^_^
And I’ll probably be saying this for most of the next year, but viewers, I can’t recommend it enough, make sure to check out Boys Run The Riot by out trans man Gaku Keito – as mentioned in the video, the manga is receiving an English release print and digital by Kodansha in 2021.
Regarding Yuni, she and her partner did a blog and comic essay about their relationship: http://vvvtanunuvvv.blog.fc2.com/ The comic essay was published in 2015 as まんがで綴る百合な日々. And she has an interesting Youtube channel called 百合クズ which includes discussion on both yuri fiction and real life relationships.
I actually reviewed that manga, although I had no idea it was by Yuni. ^_^ https://okazu.yuricon.com/2015/08/13/lgbtq-manga-de-tsuzuru-yurina-hibi-%e3%81%be%e3%82%93%e3%81%8c%e3%81%a7%e7%b6%b4%e3%82%8b%e7%99%be%e5%90%88%e3%81%aa%e6%97%a5%e3%80%85/
I love 百合クズ, I wish I had more time to listen to it. ^_^
So, her works is partially autobiographical? I don’t want to speculate, but MC of this manga is quite similar to her usual protagonists.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Nakamura-sensei actually states plainly that she’s gay here on an interview on Okazu, which I appreciated. https://okazu.yuricon.com/2009/08/09/interview-with-gunjos-nakamura-ching/
Same with Morishima-sensei. Knowing isn’t the same as thing as having it said.
Thank you so much for you help. I’m looking forward to Boys Run the Riot, in part because of your enthusiasm for it! ^_^
