Yuri Manga

Morinaga Milk-sensei’s popular Yuri series Kuchibiru Tameiki Sakurairo will be re-serialized in Comic High starting with the September 22 (October) issue. She had intimated that there *might* be a continuation forthcoming, so we can keep our fingers crossed.

Good news for Sailor Moon fans, our friend Bill Flanagan was officially announced at SDCC as the translator of Kodansha’s release of Sailor Moon . We can all breathe a sigh of relief that the translation is in good hands.

Pure Yuri Anthology Hirari, Volume 5 (ピュア百合アンソロジー ひらり) wll be hitting shelves at the end of August.

Cassiopeia Dolce, Volume 3 (カシオペア・ドルチェ 3) became available this week, for all your doll-makers who bathe Yuri needs.

Don’t forget to get yourself a copy of September’s Comic Yuri Hime, with obligatory swimsuit cover.

Tsubomi, Volume 13 joins us in August. There was a HUGE cliffhanger in Volume 12, so for once I’m really motivated to get this!

Crunchyroll Adds Morita-san wa Mukuchi Anime

July 20th, 2011

According to Crunchyroll News’ feed on Twitter, the free, legal streaming site Crunchyroll has added Morita-san ha Mukuchi to its summer line-up to worldwide audiences with the exception of Japan.

This anime is based on the 4-koma manga of the same name, which has been reviewed here. (Volume 1, Volume 2) Light on the Yuri, but cute anyway. ^_^

Yuri Anime

Goods distribution company Great Eastern has listed a number of Sailor Moon goods as “coming soon.” Phew! My Sailor Moon shrine hasn’t had any new items added for years!

The anime for Ray, by Blue Drop creator Yoshitomi Akihito has been licensed by Maiden Japan for released by Section23. There was a little Yuri-service in the manga, but I don’t know if there is any in the anime. It might be worth watching to find out. ^_^

For those of you who might be interested, Kiddy Grade has been added to Netflix Instant.

Yuri Manga

Morinaga Milk’s Himitsu no Recipe (ひみつのレシピ) from Tsubomi has made it as far as a first collected volume. This fluffy little story about food vs love will hit the streets in August.

Also due in August is Nawoko’s drama, Private Lesson (プライベートレッスン) and Takemiya Jin’s Omoi no Kakera (想いの欠片).

Don’t forget Tsubomi 13 will be on sale, too.

From Ichijinsh, this month you can expect marriage black, Hatsukoi Tectonics (初恋テクトニクス) and Mizu-iro Ether (水色エーテル).

Otome Ranbu (乙女×乱舞) seems a pretty good bet for Yuri fans, as well. It’s a collection of shorts.

So does Concerto (コンチェルト) – just check the cover out.

Snatches of Yuri

Fans of the “Yuri Sekai,” i.e., that so-delicate fake look at the super-secret lives and loves of women, might enjoy Yuri-gokoro (こいごころ), which promises a glimpse behind the veil of secrecy for people who think that exists at all.

Here’s an interesting item – Naname no Ongaku (ななめの音楽), a manga based on a horror novel with, supposedly, some Yuri-ishness.

I keep seeing Banana no Nana (バナナのナナ) on the Yuri lists, but the cover put me off. If you’re buying it, let me know what you think o it!

In the anime world, a LOT of Japanese otaku like to imagine Yuri in the Id@lmaster universe, so I expect they will do the same with the upcoming Idolmaster (アイドルマスター) anime.

Yuri Anime

On Nozomi RightStuf said those words we longed to hear…folks who pre-order the three Revolutionary Girl Utena box sets get a Rose Seal ring. (As long as supplies last.) Third set is not yet up for pre-order on their site, but I have no doubt it will be when they return from Anime Expo.

Aniplex USA has announced the license of Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

In case you ever wondered, here’s a Japanese poll ranking fave Yuri anime series. No surprised gasps at the winner, IMHO.

Morita-san ha Mukuchi TV trailer has been posted on the manga publisher’s website.

On Hooded Utilitarian, I wrote an open letter to Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi about what they should and shouldn’t do with their live-action Noir adaptation.

Other Yuri News

Amazon.com employes cosplayed Yotsuba “character” Danbo, the cardboard robot, in Seattle’s LGBT Pride Parade. We definitely need more gay robots. (I know Danbo isn’t really a robot! We still need more gay robots.)

The most recent Hatsune Miku commercial is so geeky that it’s sure to be absolutely inexplicable to most viewers. On the other hand, it has leeks, so it belongs to us.

Snatches of Yuri

YNN Correspondent Sean G says we should keep our eyes out for Maid Shokun. “Tokyopop has released its first (and sadly only) volume of Maid Shokun, a manga by the prolific authors Satou Nanki and Kizuki Akira (authors of Ebisu-san to Hotei-san). It ran for 4 volumes in Comic Gum, and is a slice-of-life manga about a maid cafe in Akihibara and the difficulty it has finding its voice.

Among the cast is Hachiya, the tall, handsome prince-type girl who wears a bartender outfit rather than a maid costume; and Airi, the cute and popular maid who is dealing with an aggressive stalker. Even if it’s an incomplete series, fans of yuri will want to grab the volume for these two, who have a quite realistic and well done storyline within, which is far more than I ever expected from a series about cute maids.

I don’t believe Tokyopop ever shipped the books to stores or to Amazon, so the only way to get them may be through a local comic shop that deals with Diamond Distributors, who shipped the volume last week.”
