Yuri News this Week – March 7, 2009

March 7th, 2009

Really short news report this week, because I’ve been miserable sick all week.

Yuri Manga

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha is getting a 4th series, this time in manga. the previous Nanoha manga series were short, almost in between the spaces of the anime series. (I just finished reading the StrikerS manga last week, as it happens.) This new series will kick off in new magazine Nyantype from Kadokawa, the title of which does not fill me with hope. *However,* we are told that in this series Nanoha will be 25, which IMHO makes her fully cooked, at last. Phew.

Fans will be pleased that Vivio is getting her own series, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid, in Kadokawa’s Comp Ace magazine.

Yuri Monogatari 6, the newest 100% Yuri anthology from ALC Publishing has been sent off to the printers. There’s still time to pre-order! Get great new Yuri from Rica Takashima, Circle UKOZ, Eriko Tadeno and many more. It’s a terrific book, I’m very pleased. :-)

Yuri Anime

In what has to be the weirdest choice ever, Shimura Takako’s Aoi Hana (Sweet Blue Flowers) will be getting an anime. Don’t get me wrong – I think it’s a wonderful, terrific choice. But an odd one, if you think about it for a second. :-) In any case, we’ll all be getting to see our babydyke hero Fumi power her way through other people’s issues, with her vulnerable, sweet, core of steel personality. A great role model for young Japanese girls who will never see this, because I’m sure it’ll be on at 2AM lol.

Speaking of school series in which nothing happens, the third season set of Maria Watches Over Us has begun shipping. I’ve already watched one disk. lol And my Yellow Rose swings from the corner of my now overloaded phone. It’s not *quite* the same as headbands and postcards and panda cloths, and more postcards and marble-patterned photo albums and all the other good crap we got from the Collector’s sets, but it’s a thing. I’m happy. :-)

Like I said, short report this week. But quality totally makes up for quantity, this time. :-)

News Brief: Aoi Hana Anime Announced

March 6th, 2009

Shimura Takako’s Aoi Hana manga is being made into an anime. How interesting, don’t you think?

Like, Hayate x Blade by Hayashiya, and Girl Friends by Morinaga, Aoi Hana is another series by a woman, about girls, ostensibly for a male audience. It runs in Erotics F magazine.

I’m starting to think that this may well be the future of Yuri. Your thoughts?

Yuri Anime

Because Koihime Musou left so many questions unanswered, a second season of anime has been announced. Shin Koihime Musou is bound to have more jiggling boobs, lolis, and Fake Yuri! So, erm…yay.

Also of questionable yay-ness to me, but YAY! to some is the breathlessly awaited announcement that is coming *any* second, no seriously, for the sequel to Strike Witches. Kadkoawa is not making any friends recently, with their bait-and-switch approach to news for this and other (coughHaruhicough) series.

Right Stuf has announced the relaunch of the Aria website, with loads of online goodies, wallpapers, postcards, etc. And if you pre-order Aria The Natural, Part 2, it will come with a papercraft set of the Prima and their proteges. This papercraft set was available in Japan, and now they are bringing it here as an entirely appropriate omake for fans of this series. Right Stuf continues to win my Microniche Marketing Award for “getting” my approach to marketing to fans.

Yuri Manga

This is really more of a “Snatches of Yuri” item, but since like a million people have asked about it, I thought I’d better tell the rest of you that Kurogane Pukapuka Tai is gaining much traction in Yuri fandom from being another alt-WWII meets Fake Yuri tale, with women in uniform on a ship during the Pacific campaign which the Japanese are winning/have won, or something. Fans of military detail will enjoy this series, as long as you overlook the two obvious handwaves. The Yuri is possible because the captain is so utterly cool that her crew – especially her XO – is in love with her. but of course she is clueless, so don’t expect anything to come of it.

It’s actually kind of cute, as long as I skip over the careful listing of dimensions/weight/armaments/etc of the ships, because it could really be anywhere on anything, since the rest of it is so silly. :)

Once more I am going to implore you to please *pre-order* Yuri Monogatari 6 from your local bookstore, comic store, through Amazon. I say this because right now we are also on track to not be carried by Diamond anymore, because we won’t be making their minimum levels. That means, simply, there will never be a chance for you or anyone to walk into a bookstore and see it on the shelf.

Of course, our books will continue to be available online, so if you really can’t stand the thought of committing, you can always drop by the Yuricon Shop anytime and pick up 100% Yuri from ALC!

Have a great weekend – see you next week for another Yuri News report!

Yuri News This Week – February 21, 2009

Yuri Anime

The big news this week (for me, at least,) is that Funimation has licensed the number one and two series on my “I wish someone would license these anime” list. Look for more news about El Cazador de la Bruja and RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne at the Funimation News page.

Not that anyone here cares, but Futari ha PreCure AllStars teaser and full trailer are available online. AllStars unites members of the previous six casts in an “all-star” series.

Eric P. points to the latest issue of Anime Insider which reports that Revolutionary Girl Utena is getting a rerelease in Japan, with Limited Edition extras including a booklet and bonus disc featuring commentary by Kunihiko Ikuhara. A decade after it first came out, I wonder how it’ll be received?

Snatches of Yuri

Sean is pleased to have found a lesbian best friend in Urusawa Naoto’s Happy!, which in most ways is completely unlike it’s title.

And the appallingly stupid Akikan manga has developed a probably Yuri-service can/master couple. For those not yet appalled by this piece of dreck, the story follows anthropomorphized soft drink cans and their “masters,” with a lot of panty shots. (A **lot**.) In the manga, one of the female characters ran out to buy a can from a vending machine and ended up with a girl instead. Aru is the anthropomorphized form of a sports drink.

Other Yuri News

sapphire_sophilia is proud to announce that the first book of her Yuri novel series Crimson Stains on the Solstice Moon is available on her storefront. She adds “What’s posted is 1st Edition: Crystal, which means it won’t have all the spiffy pictures in it like other light/yaoi novels until 2nd Edition: Sapphire.”

News Brief: Funimaton licenses Mnemosyne

February 20th, 2009

Oh, Funi is getting all my Yuri love this week. I bet they were just jealous of Right Stuf and Media Blasters. lol

They have just announced the licensing of RIN: Daughters of Mnemoysne.

License Blue Drop and you get a perfect trifecta and maybe a shipment of chocolate, Funi. :-)

Personally, I strongly encourage companies to listen to me, my advice is usually pretty good. LOL
