Dangerous Women: Tales of Queer Villiany is at just about 2/3 the initial funding goal in our first week! I encourage you all to take advantage of the excellent backer pricing and rewards available to you and help us reach our initial goal quickly. You can also support us by sharing the campaign on your own groups and lists.

Stretch goals will give more money to the writers and we have a really cool stretch goal planned, so please help us out and back this awesome prose anthology of queer women and their quests for power.

Industry News

I came home last night to find this news – Kodansha has acquired Ichijinsha. The publisher of Comic Yuri Hime will now be a wholly-owned subsidiary of one of the three largest publishers in Japan. What that will mean for Comic Yuri Hime is as yet unknown, but consider that negotiations must have been going on for many months and Ichijinsha has planned for Comic Yuri Hime to go monthly in 2017. It may mean something and it may mean nothing for us. We’ll have to wait and see.  I found the article on Comic Natalie, but here is ANN’s writeup in English.

Yuri Manga

ANN has the scoop on the newest chapters heading our way of Rose of Versailles, which is moving quickly towards a 45th anniversary. The two new chapters will follow Marie Antoinette.

ANN also tells us that the Akuma no Riddle manga is coming to an end this winter. It is available in English in print from Seven Seas and in digital format on Global Bookwalker.

Events

LGBTQ Comics Consortium Prism Comics will be bringing great LGBTQ comics to  Stan Lee’s Comikaze in Los Angeles on October 28-30 and New Jersey Comic Expo in Edison, NJ on November, 19-20. Contact Prism if you want to volunteer some time!

Yuri Anime

Crunchyroll will be streaming Sound! Euphonium 2, according to Crunchyroll News.

YNN_LissaYuri Manga and Comics

Ana Valens takes a look at the changing nature of Yuri Manga over at The Mary Sue.

YNN Correspondent Shannon L wants us all to know that Batwoman has been given a second chance (or is this the third?) at an ongoing series, this time written by Marguerite Bennett. The new series is slated to debut in February 2017.

YNN Correspondent Elizabeth F is excited to let you all know about the upcoming Legend of Korra Graphic Novel series, which is coming in summer 2017. The GN series picks up after the cartoon ended and will, we’re told, explore Korra and Asami’s relationship, as well as a new threat.

Viz announced that they’ve picked up another Yuri manga title, After Hours by Nishio Yuta. I’m not at all familiar with this title, or HiBaNa magazine, in which it runs. It’s a Big Comics title, which means it’s seinen, for adult men, the art looks moe, and the story synopsis is difficult to parse. It’s about “a young lesbian finding herself after meeting an older woman at a club.” So…could be good, could be not. I guess we’ll see! Thanks YNN Correspondent Shannon L for the pointer!

And, from the folks who brought you Lily Love, the Three Musqueerteers, Volume 1 of Pulse, a new Yuri manga by Ratana Satis is available for pre-order on their website!

Yuri Game

YNN Correspondent Elizabeth F shares the news of the 2016 Yuri Game Jam, which welcomes game developers  to complete a Yuri-themed game in one month. Here is a link to previously developed Yuri Games from the 2015 Yuri Game Jam!

Sailor Moon & Card Captor Sakura News

The Official Sailor Moon Fan Club has opened it’s door to overseas fans. You can become a member at Tokyo Otaku Mode, where membership will get you a card, a limited-release lip gloss accessory and access to the Japanese membership website where they will give you access to other exclusive shit you don’t need. ^_^

And while you’re at it, check out ANN”s report on the 20th anniversary official Sailor Moon Guidebook, with a retrospective of 20 (almost 25 now….) years of the Senshi.

Card Captor Sakura is getting new news in November. We’ve already got a new manga, and a new anime…what could be next? ANN has the report.

Other News

Back in the day, before there was LGBTQ YA literature, young lesbians like myself (or Satou Sei) would trawl the libraries looking for things to read in which we could find ourselves represented…often we found little enough. But some names floated to the to;, names like Radclyffe Hall, Una Troubridge and Romaine Brooks. Romaine Brooks was a painter and an exhibition of her paintings of her lesbian contemporaries is on display at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

While this election is far more likely to elicit terms of disgust than joy, in an historic moment, Hillary Clinton has become the first Presidential candidate to write an op-ed for a LGBTQ newspaper! Here is her discussion of LGBT rights in the Philadeliphia Gay News.

YNN_MariK Yuri Manga

Volume 5 of Anoko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo (あの娘にキスと白百合を) hit shelves today in Japan with various gifts and illustrations at different stores, Comic Natalie reports.

Himawari-san, Volume 7 (ひまわりさん 7) is also hit shelves today.

Power & Magic: The Queer Witch Comic Anthology, featuring 15 comics about queer witches of color is heading into it’s final 2 weeks of a crowdfunding campaign and is about 2/3 way funded. I’m in on this fantastic-looking anthology.

According to Seikaisha the 6th volume of Marine Corps Yumi is going on sale October 10. Now that predatory lesbian Erica Bush is a semi-regular, we’ll just go ahead and call it “Yuri.” ^_^

Other News

For your shelf of useful things you’ll never use, ANN has the word that a letter-opener size version of Sailor Uranus’ Space Sword Blaster is up for order.

The actresses for the five roles of Grand Stage’s live event have videos up on the official page. I’m not seeing it, just yet. They all look 12 years old and sound very girly to me. ^_^  The choice for Akabara-no-kimi, Yuuto Iriya, frankly puzzles me. Spoiled as I am with Saiga Mitsuki in the role, I cannot for the life of me hear or see this adorable cherub as the suave elder of the Grand Stage.

The Official Sailor Moon fan club is opening up it’s ranks to overseas fans for the very first time. Registration will run from September 23 through October 22, but…no surprise Tokyo Otaku Mode didn’t actually imagine that a lot of people would try to register and their system crashed, so they’ve delayed the registration. May I editorialize here for a moment? WTF? How did they *not* realize the system would be slammed? Seriously.

October 28 through November 4, will see a Rose of Versailles Rose Garden in the Ginza in Tokyo. ANN has the details.

We’ll wrap up with two interesting – and hopeful – articles on the place of LGBTQ themes in manga as ways of helping further LGBTQ understanding in Japan.

How Manga is guiding Japan’s Youth on LGBT issues from Dazed.com and The Evolving “Boy’s Love” Culture: How Rotten Girls’ Gloom Could Eliminate Prejudice, from an American and Japanese gay couple, living in Japan.

Live Action News

A new Cutie Honey movie is in the works, according to Komatsu-san over at Crunchyroll News. He has the links for the first glimpse of Mariya Nishiuchi, who will be starring as Hitomi Kisaragi in CUTIE HONEY ~TEARS~ singing the theme song on Avex Mode’s official Youtube channel. It’s the same story over again, but for once doesn’t look cheesy at all. I’m not sure how I feel about that. ^_^ Sister Jill is *finally* awesome, though – I approve completely. All supervillians ought to be awesome.

Anime News

Crunchyroll News has the scoop on the second season of the Sound! Euphonium anime, which is slated to debut in Japan in October.

Other News

This is completely off topic, but it’s so important I thought it worth mentioning. Crunchyroll has the news that  Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo, known as KochiKame is finally ending after 40 years. If you’ve been to a Japanese bookstore, you’ve probably seen this manga, with it’s distinctive thick-eyebrowed police protagonist. This is an iconic manga and the ending of it marks the end of an era.

Crunchyroll and Funimation announced a joint partnership this week. It’s a good choice for both of them. Funimation was mostly relying on Hulu for streaming, but they’ve just dumped most of their anime and Crunchyroll wants to get into DVD/BD distribution. It’s not a merger, the two are just partnering, and it will be interesting to see where it leads. Justin Sevakis has some great insight into this news over at ANN.
