T minus 2 days

April 6th, 2005

Two days to go before we attempt the impossible, our Yuricon tour and event in Tokyo, the Yuri Revolution.

We’re mostly packed (and very close to the international weight limit for luggage!) and I *still* have about a hundred things to do before I leave.

Last night I forked over money for a digital camera, so hopefully you’ll all be able to read daily updates and see pictures on how much fun we’re having, blundering around Tokyo and making complete fools of ourselves.

Before I leave I just wanted to drop a hint of some exciting new news on the ALC Publishing side….

Shoujoai ni Bouken: The Adventures of Yuriko, Volume 1, is nigh on complete. At last! you will be able to read Yuricon’s hunky mascot, Yuriko’s, adventures in life and love in illustrated (and edited!) form.

Keep your eyes on the Yuricon Shop for pre-order information for the first of what we hope will be three volumes.

I have to say that the illustrations, drawn by Kelli Nicely, are all super nifty. I’m really pleased with them – and I think you will be, too.

March 4th, 2005

Yuricon is pleased to announce four special guests who will be joining us for our historic Yuri Revolution event in Tokyo, Japan, on April 16, 2005!

Yuri manga artist Tadeno Eriko: Tadeno-san returns as a special guest to a Yuricon event for the second time and we’re thrilled to have her join us once again. Tadeno-san is a well-known yuri managaka, whose collection “WORKS,” was translated into English in 2004 by ALC Publishing.

Yuri manga artist Rica Takashima: Author of Rica ‘tte Kanji!?, Rica Takashima made a name for herself with her involvement in Phryne and Anise magazines, and her collection has just gone into a second edition here in the US. It’s very exciting to have her helping out on this historic occasion!

February 1st, 2005

Onna! is pleased to announce the first ouf our confirmed guests!

Paige Braddock, creator of “Jane’s World”, is one of the few women to have a comic strip syndicated in major metropolitan daily newspaper, and the only artist with a gay/lesbian main character to ever do so. Paige and “Jane” will bring years of experience and success in the demanding business of syndicated comic strips to share with Onna! attendees.

Sin Comix is a New York-area circle of artists who publish both online

What do we mean by yuri-only?

Many anime and manga events in japan are organized around a single series or genre. These are known as “whatever-only” events. For instance, if an event was only for fans of Maria-sama ga Miteru, the event would be advertised as “Marimite-only.”

Events: Yuri/Yaoi lecture in Tampa, Florida on 10/9

October 6th, 2004

AnimeNation is hosting a lecture on Saturday, October 9 at 2PM.

I’ll be speaking about the current state of yaoi and yuri in Japan and America, specifically focusing on publishing ventures here in America, like Be Beautiful, ALC Publishing and Drag Queen Manga.

AnimeNation’s retail store is located in Tampa, Florida – here’s the map and directions.

I hope that you’ll all come, visit with me, and pick up some Yuri and BL manga and anime (I’ll be glad to make recommendations!) from the folks at Animenation. I’ll see you there!
