I am writing this in a post-show haze from an incredible Sailor Moon The Super Live! event. Tomorrow, I’ll write it all up. There are a very few tickets left for the remaining shows in Connecticut, Philadelphia and New York City. If you can, go. It was a great show. ^_^

I am incredibly excited to announce that I will be guest at Y/Con in Paris, France, on November 14-15, 2025. I cannot wait to meet French Yuri fans and folks from all around Europe!

Girls Love Fest 44 Yuri doujinshi event will be held on June 29, 2025 at the PiO building in Ota-ku, Tokyo. I’m already hoping to attend the March 2026 event, because I miss GLFes! Last time we made it to one was 2019 for the 100 years of Yuri Tour.

Baihe

Baiheverse has begun releasing chapters of The Clouds of Past Millennia,  a time-travel tale of fate. They appear to be taking a free-sample-to-paid-chapter model.

Yuri Manga in English

Ize Press has announced a manhwa license, I Love Amy, by unni, a 4-volume girls love series. Wonhee Cho has the details on ANN. This is Ize’s first Yuri release!

Yen Press has also announced a new Yuri license, Monster-Colored Island. ANN’s Alex Mateo has the news. Mariko S. reviewed Volume 1 in Japanese in 2021 here on Okazu.

We have some new items up on the Yuricon Store!

I Can’t Say No To The Lonely Girl, Volume 6 finishes up this series with a surprisingly warm fuzziness given the beginning premise.

Yodokawa’s Monthly in the Garden with My Landlord, Volume 4 hit shelves in March. This is low-key one of my favorite series of the year, just for the way it does….well, everything.

The Anemone Feels the Heat, Volume 1 is the first of a LOT of volumes following a girl who accidentally missed her chance at the path she wanted to take and now is trying to rebuild, who meets someone who never had those chances at all. Anemone ga Netsu wo Obiru, Volume 2  (アネモネが熱を帯びる) in Japanese is also up on the Store.

The slow, but inexorable, romance between Chidori and Nanoha continues to build in Rainbows After Storms, Volume 3.

There are a lot of monster who want to eat Hinako, but her days with two monsters in paticular are special in This Monster Wants to Eat Me, Volume 4

Assorted Entanglements, Volume 7 by Mikanuji, continues to throw us tidbits of the lives of various women finding their places with each other

Yuri Manga in Japanese

I fell very behind on these, in the last few months, so I apologize for the manga dump, but I am now caught up with my previous bookmarks and am starting in on the new ones. ^_^

Watashi no Oshi ha Akuyaku Reijou., Volume 10 ( 私の推しは悪役令嬢。) will be the penultimate volume of this series, which will wrap up the “Revolution” arc. It’s been a great run.

Tsumetakute Yawaraka, Volume 1 (冷たくて 柔らか) by Uozumi Ami is also out now in English as  Pink Candy Kiss, Volume 1 from Viz Media.

Doushi Shoujo yo, Teki o Ute,  Volume 1 (同志少女よ、敵を撃て)  is a dark tale of a girl whose family is killed by the Germans, so she is taken in by Russians to become a sniper, and her intense and violent relationship with the woman who trains her.

Amayo no Tsuki, Volume 9 (雨夜の月) New volume, new volume! I can’t wait to see what happens with Saki and Kanon. ^_^

Gal Maid to Akuyaku Reijou ~ Ojou-sama no Happy End Shika Katan!, Volume 2 (ギャルメイドと悪役令嬢 ~おじょーさまのハッピーエンドしか勝たん!) When a gal is reincarnated into an otome game as the villainess’ maid, she wants to protect her life and live happily with her mistress.

Koi Yori Aoku, Volume 1 (恋より青く) Two girls meet through a book dropped on a train.

Kimi ga Hoeru Tame no Uta o, Volume 1 (キミが吠えるための歌を、) Haru loves to sing, but is afraid of being mocked for her deep voice, Yu is a “vocaloid”_type singer who wants to write for her.

Kekkonshitai Ryuuguu-san ha Jourikushimashita, Volume 1 (結婚したい竜宮さんは上陸しました) A girl is taken to the Dragon Palace under the sea by a mermaid who falls for her.

Haikei, Arishi Hi ni Saku Sana-tachi e  (拝啓、在りし日に咲く花たちへ) In this books and Yuri story, a girl transfers into a girls school and discovers a relationship from the past in letters hidden in library books.

Kiraware Majyo Reijō to Dansou Ouji no Kon’yaku, Volume 3 (嫌われ魔女令嬢と男装皇子の婚約) Eve and Ciel take on the final boss in this fantasy about magic and society accepting people as they are.

LGBTQ Comics and Manga

YNN Sr. Correspondent Sean Gaffney says fans of LGBTQ manga and Yoshinaga Fumi ought to keep an eye out for Tamaki & Amane from Yen.

Via Okazu Staff Writer Matt Marcus, Kathleen Gros’ graphic novel I HATED YOU IN HIGH SCHOOL “is an enemies-to-lovers story inspired by classic romantic movies—with a queer twist.”

Yuri Games

Nichegamer wants you to know that The Great Villainess: Strategy of Lily, a deception-based turn-based strategy game will available be on Steam this July.

Yuri Anime

Cutie Honey – The Original TV Series – Blu-ray is now available from Discotek. This is Go Nagai’s original vision for the series and, as weird and horny as it is, it also has some amazing moments.

Sentai Filmworks has the Blu-Ray collection for Jellyfish Can’t Swim In The Night up for pre-order, with a May release date.

ANN”s Steve Jones is on point, as usual, with his review of Rock Is A Lady’s Modesty, Episodes 1-3. Series streaming on HIDIVE.

Girls Band Cry Compilation Film announces staff, cast and offers up this teaser on Youtube, says ANN’s Joana Cayanan.

Light Novels

Fans of Hitoma Iruma’s series won’t want to miss Adachi and Shimamura: Short Stories, a collection of shorts that were, as reviewer Sean Gaffney noted, probably extras for print volumes.

Next week we have a brand-new original self-published work from inori.-sensei, illustrated by Aonoshimo, Homunculus Tears: Alchemy for the Brokenhearted. Don’t miss this fantasy light novel about finding one’s place in life when everything around you is changing.

Just making sure – we are all watching Rock Is A Lady’s Modesty, on HIDIVE, right? ^_^ Class S, Yuri service and rock music make for an amusing series so far. Review to come soon! Kara Dennison over at Crunchyroll News has the creditless opening and closing animation segments for your enjoyment.

Speaking of girl bands, over at ANN Egan Loo has the news that two cast members of Girls Band Cry are resuming recording dialogue for the upcoming first of two compilation movies. If you missed that series it is streaming over at Crunchyroll.

Lycoris Recoil: Friends are thieves of time, the six-episode short film series, will be streaming on Aniplex’s YouTube channel starting on April 16, according to Crystalyn Hodgkins on ANN.

From Komatsu-san over at Crunchyroll News, we have Science SARU’s new The Ghost In The Shell anime, which is, for the first time, an adaptation of the manga art style. Check out the trailer on Youtube.

ANN’s Alex Mateo has the news that Gundam GQuuuuuuX anime will be getting same-day dubs. I’m told that, for an Amazon anime, this one has subtitles and translation that are not terrible. ^_^ Today is Gundam day for me. Catching up on my GWitch rewatch and this.

Ken Iikura-Gross has news that the cast and staff of Kaleido Star would *also* like a new anime…and they are hoping to reinvigorate fandom, with a teaser on Youtube to get our blood pumping. As you may recall, I have a complicated relationship with this series, and have a whole category on Okazu filled with my love of Sora and Layla and hate for Yuri and Carlos. ^_^

Yuri Manga

Shin Ikkitousen manga is returning from hiatus. It helps to remember that no matter what the world brings us, this series just never dies. ^_^ ANN’s Rafael Antonio Pineda has the news. Did I ever mention that a friend of mine who is scholar of Chinese poetry once came to my house and was absolutely aghast at my Ikkitousen figurines and wrote a whole article about it? ^_^ Fast Times at San Guo High: a Visit to Erica Friedman of Yuricon.

Daryl Harding at Crunchyroll News says that Girl Crush manga, about two girls who want to become K-pop idols, has passed half a million copies sold! Not a romance, but intense relationship, ahoy! Check out the manga trailer on Youtube.

waffle.zone on the Okazu Discord was pleased to share the news that Inklore has licensed Sora and Haena by Jackbull. They describe this as a “sweet and silly GL.”

Once again, I am playing catchup on adding manga to the Yuricon Store!

Otherside Picnic, Volume 12, which was reviewed by Sandy this week on Okazu.

If My Favorite Idol Made It To The Budokan I Would Die, Volume 5 was reviewed by me this week, as well.

SHWD: The Complete Yuri Collection by sono.N will be headed our way in June, from Seven Seas. Frankly, I think this will be good as an omnibus violume. I loved this action series about beefy, but sweet, adult women fighting monsters.

Hitting shelves this summer from Seven Seas is Tough Love at the Office: The Complete Yuri Collection, Sal Jiang’s violence in the office Yuri series which I really enjoyed for all the right wrong reasons. ^_^ Read it in small pieces…it’s a lot.

A White Rose in Bloom, Volume 4 will be here in June, from Seven Seas. When I reviewed this JP volume in January I called it a “gem” of Rakuen Le Paradis magazine.

I Can’t Say No to the Lonely Girl, Volume 6 came out in March, and is now on the Store! This is the final volume of the series…but not the end, because we also have Lonely Girl Hanataba wo – Kashikaze Short Story Collection (ロンリーガールに花束を 樫風短編集) in Japanese – the collection of shorts and doujinshi Kashikaze has drawn about Ayaka and Sora in college. I’m looking forward to those.

Garan no Hime ( 伽藍の姫 -がらんのひめ-) , Volume 1 and Volume 2, is the one science fiction/fantasy currently running Comic Yuri Hime magazine. I love the story, honestly.

Kiraware Majyo Reijō to Dansou Ouji no Kon’yaku, Volume 2 (嫌われ魔女令嬢と男装皇子の婚約) has a cover that does not do the series justice, but in this volume Eve and Ciel take on society, the rewritten history of their kingdom and a surprise antagonist.

Genjitsu Sekai Demo Shiawasenishite Kudasai Ne?, Volume 1 (現実世界でも幸せにしてくださいね?) is a reverse isekai, about characters from a game coming to our world to meet their hero and get her decision on which route she’s taking.

Yuri Audiobooks

Seven Seas Siren released Roll Over and Die: I Will Fight for an Ordinary Life with My Love and Cursed Sword!, Vol. 2 audiobook this past February.

I’m in Love with the Villainess: She’s so Cheeky for a Commoner (Audiobook) Vol. 3 is on the Yuricon Store, and completes the story. (For now.)

Yuri Light Novels

While we’re talking inori.-sensei’s work, don’t miss Homunculus Tears: Alchemy for the Brokenhearted, her newest novel, self-published on Amazon, with art by I’m In Love With The Villainess manga artist Aonoshimo-sensei and translated by ILTV translator Kevin Ishizaka! This book will hit Kindle later this month.

Also on the way from inori.-sensei in June, is The Girl Who Wants to Be a Hero and the Girl Who Ought to Be a Hero, Vol. 1. (no EN cover for it yet.) I reviewed this in Japanese last year, where I said about it, “It was a lot of fun. Everything I want in a Dengeki Bunko read – a “light” novel in the broadest sense. It’s small, quickly paced, not entirely predictable and ends just where you want it to.” This is coming out from Yen making inori.-sensei one of the few creators I know who are being published by more than one American publisher.

Yuri Visual Novels

Hat tip to Matt Marcus for news of the Toxic Yuri VN Jam on itchi.io. I have a theory about the trend of toxic Yuri popularity. Back in the day, when all we had were failed relationships, all Yuri fandom wanted was happily-ever-afters. Now that we are used to couple staying together happily, folks are looking for flaws and nuances and failures in their Yuri. ^_^

Studio Élan’s newest Kickstarter is for Lock & Key: A Magical Girl Mystery Visual Novel, which they describe as “…a pair of married magical girls take on one last case together…” This VN has already surpassed the initial goal with two stretch goals to go!

April 5th, 2025

A blue silhouette of a girl with a white flower in her hair, embracing the earth. Blue block letters read YNN Yuri Network News. Art by Lissa P. For Okazu.Yuri Anime

We said goodbye to the last season and now we face a….no, no, there’s no way Momentary Lily would jut let us move on that easily. And so, there is one. more. episode to watch. It is certainly about intense, if nonsensical, emotional relationships between girls, so, sorry, it is required homework. Go with grace.

In better news, the shiny new Rose of Versailles movie is coming to Netflix on April 30. ANN’s Alex Mateo has the details. I know I’m pretty excited about it. We’ll have French food for dinner. Expect high ridiculousness from me about this. ^_^

Finally, on to new things! Rock Is A Lady’s Modesty has arrived on HIDIVE and it is being received with critical acclaim. The Okazu Discord was buzzing last night and Anime Feminist’s Vrai Kaiser has high praise for this mix of Class S aesthetic and girls’ band stuff….and Yuri.

Via Zack Davisson, the original 1990’s Sailor Moon anime is on Amazon Prime. If you haven’t watched it ever, and have Prime, this is a great time to boggle at the monsters of the day back in the 90s.

Yuri Manga & Comics

Yen has a few license announcements for us and ANN’s Alex Mateo has all the info!  First up, is the manga for Rock Is A Lady’s Modesty, and the anthology comic for the Lycoris Recoil series. The third one, Muromaki’s “100 Yuri Situations” comics (#百合シチュ101 ) on Twitter has been collected and licensed. I know I read it, but somehow it slipped through the cracks here and I never reviewed it. It has been licensed by Yen as Lilies Blooming in 100 Days. I humbly suggest that “in” be replaced with “for”.

Sasayakuyouni Koi wo Utau offers us this voiced comic covering the days after the school festival as Aki and Shiho repair their relationship and become a couple.

S.I.R. , a “GL Motorcycle Jousting romance” by Fell Hound and Eleonora Bruni is up for pre-order, and will be hitting shelves in June. You bet I have pre-ordered a copy! ^_^

Mage and Demon Queen creator Color-LES is pleased to introduce her patrons to “Leina and Aisha, the main characters of my upcoming GL/ Yuri manga【Detective Reaper Morrigan】” Keep an eye out for that!

Yuri Visual Novels

Noodletub games is very pleased to announce the launch of their Renai Bakudan on Steam and Itch.io. “The ultimate 18+ yuri visual novel! Romance seven beautiful ladies, work at the weirdest love hotel in Japan, and live your best life in Akiyama’s red-light district!”

Also adult, but in a different way, we have the Adult Life Yuri Bundle by Team ANPIM on Steam. They describe this as a collection of “4 yuri stories by Team ANPIM, featuring women who are 23 years and older! No longer students, they are finding romance while balancing the responsibilities of working, rent, and adulting.”

Studio Élan has a few announcements as well. A Tithe in Blood is getting a full Japanese translation as well as full Japanese voice acting on release. That’s all kinds of cool.  Their Upwards Rain, “The post office of farewells,” is getting a Steam release in July. Our Home, My Keeper now has a playable demo on Steam, as well.

If you are interested in writing reviews for Okazu, Yuri Visual Novels are a very good pitch. I don’t read them, but am very interested in having people who do, write reviews for us!

Live Action Yuri

Sr. YNN Correspondent Frank Hecker has good news to report. He says that the pseudonymous Korean director Soo Not Sue is filming a new series, An Office Thing; the link goes to the trailer on Youtube. Frank notes that the trailer is filmed for a smartphone, so turn your head sideways if you’re viewing on a desktop. He also notes, “Even better yet: It stars Choi Ji-won as Yu Bin, who was a side character in Soo Not Sue’s previous series She Makes My Heart Flutter (which Frank reviewed here on Okazu last year). Choi was quite funny as Yu Bin, who was unlucky in love; maybe as a lead character she’ll have better luck! “

Yuri Anime

A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof anime is already popping up on Yuri sites. Alex Mateo has details of the production on ANN.

ANN’s Rafael Antonio Pineda has the updated info on Gundam GQuuuuuuX. And, in other Gundam news, Ken Iikura-Gross notes that in the latest “First Gundam Watched” Poll not only does Mobile Suit Gundam – The Witch From Mercury have a clear majority, the number of people who answered GWitch comes close to the number of people who answered the poll at all the last time. That is an amazing shift.

Yuri Manga

Kanaria ha Kiraboshi no Yume o Miru, Volume 1 (カナリアは綺羅星の夢をみる) is a Taisho romance about a girl who wants to design clothes, and a mysterious foreigner, with the evocative name of Tsubaki, a reference I missed entirely until my translation tool translated it as La Traviata and I said, “d’oh!” while slapping myself on the forehead. ^_^

Muryoku Seijo to Munou Oujo ~ Maryoku Zero de Shoukansareta Seijo no Isekai Kyuukokuki (~無力聖女と無能王女~魔力ゼロで召喚された聖女の異世界救国記~) is an isekai about two “useless” women who find that together they have power. I quite like this one. ^_^

Viz’s newest Yuri entry is Pink Candy Kiss, Volume 1,  by Uozumi Ami. This is a tale of two people with a history who meet once again later in life.

Kase-san and Yamada, Volume 4 is the 9th volume(!) of the story of these two lovable girls and their, now, college life. Will Kase-san be able to move in with Yamada, or will her weirdo roommate throw a wrench into their new life?

Ohzawa Yayoi has  new series, Amefuri Harete Hana Hikaru (雨降り晴れて花ひかる) about a married woman and the complicated relationship she and her husband have with the woman she truly loves. I haven’t read this series at all, but Volume 1 and Volume 2 are available.

Via Comic Natalie, Haikei, Arishi Hi ni Saku Hana-tachi e, Volume 1 (拝啓、在りし日に咲く花たちへ) is about a serious girl who finds a secret love affair from the past in letters in a library book at the girls’ school she attends. I might go for this one, I do like meta stories.  ^_^

Girls Love Fest is happening in mere hours in at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial and Trade Center Hamamatsucho Building,  Minato-ku, Tokyo. This is GLFes 43, so congrats to the GLFes organizing committee for that, Wow.

The Queer and Feminist Perspectives on Japanese Popular Cultures symposium is accepting submission for presentations! This was a wonderful experience, so definitely send in your proposals – don’t worry if you’re not “academic.” The audience was super welcoming and supportive.

Not an event, but I wanted to share a few pictures from my trip to NYC yesterday, where I was able to visit the Midtown Kinkonukiya. It is *so* Yuri! The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t A Guy At All / Kininatteru Hito Ga Otoko Janakatta was featured on every floor. I had literally finished Volume 3 in Japanese the night before, but picked up another copy so I could get the standee. Yes, I am that otaku. ^_^

I saw this shelf tag and said, “We won.” ^_^ It says in Japanese Yuri Manga, and in English Girl’s Love/ Yuri Manga. I can’t ask for better.

Additionally, they now have signed copies of my book at The Ripped Bodice in Brooklyn, NYC, so if you are in the area, pick one up! The folks there were absolutely lovely.
