Yuri Manga in English

The license announcements from Anime Expo have bloomed and we’re getting a nice crop of lilies this year.

Kodansha has announced Sal Jiang’s Wicked Spot. I genuinely enjoyed Volume 1 in Japanese. This tale of a witch who leaves her secluded village and joins humanity is just dark enough to really be enjoyable.

Tokyopop also has picked up Sal Jiang’s Ayaka Is In Love With Hiroko!, of which I have reviewed all three volumes in Japanese here on Okazu.

Speaking of Sal Jiang, an omnibus of Tough Love At The Office The Complete Yuri Collection, is heading our way this month from Seven Seas. They also just released SHWD, The Complete Yuri Collection. Both of these are on the Yuricon Store. 

Yen Press has two announcements for us – Out of the Cocoon, the short story collection by Yuriko Hara that includes a post Cocoon, Entwined story following our escaped protagonists. CW for the other stories that include cannibalism and death. Also, Yen is releasing a limited-edition hardcover webstore exclusive edition for The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t A Guy At All.

Kodansha also picked up one of my faves, Fall in Love with the Black Knight (For Her Money). Interesting choice on the title, as the original is about making the Black Knight fall for the Clarice. I’ve got Volume 1 of Gakeppuchi Reijou ha Kuro Kishi-sama o Horesasetai! here and will be reviewing it. Thanks NinjaGoemon for catching that.

Not specific to Yuri, but Square Enix manga titles have been added to Bookwalker Global, so now you can get your Otherside Picnic manga and light novels there, including Otherside Picnic manga, Volume 13, which is hitting shelves in November.

Yuri Manga in Japanese

Koi Yori Aoku, Volume 2 (恋より青く) is up on the Yuricon Store. Takamine and Sakukura attend different high schools as they slowly deepen their relationship.

My absolute favorite mangaka, Hayashiya Shizuru has just announced a new series, “Butchi-gumi ~ Yoroshiku isekai Warera Mabudachi Akkimessatsu Butchigiregumi” (ブッチ組 ～夜露死苦異世界 我等真武親友 悪鬼滅殺仏血義礼組 （よろしくいせかい われらまぶだち あっきめっさつぶっちぎれぐみ）).  Check out the free intro on Comic Nora. I had to use a VPN to access it the first time, but it seems to work okay without, now. I am hoping and praying that this is one of the hilarious ideas she used in “Tanerabo manga do it!” from Yuritora Jump, Volume 2 made real. I think it might be. She loves me. ^_^

Via Yuri Zona Spain on Bluesky, Ichijinsha is releasing  yrhm Yuri Hime 20th Anniversary Anthology (yrhm 百合姫20thアンソロジー) with new work by inori., Yuama, Kashikaze, Iwami Kyouko and others!

Baihe Manhua

Baiheverse has just released a new manhua title, The Wayward Tenant and Her Pretty Landlady by Nihaohaohaojun. Our Senior Baihe editor Frank says of the new title, “The quality of the story remains to be seen, but the English translation reads well and the art is top-notch.”

LGBTQ Manga

Random House Graphics is releasing I Want to Be Your Girl, Volume 1, by Umi Takase, about Hime who has always loved Akira and supports her when Akira decides to live as her true self. Sr. YNN Correspondent Sean G tells me that this is a separate imprint from RH that just debuted called Ink Pop.

A rec from the Okazu Discord, is High Class Homos, a fantasy about a gay prince and a lesbian princess who have a marriage of convenience.

Baihe Light Novel

Just as a reminder, Seven Seas’ first Baihe Light Novel, The Beauty’s Blade: Mei Ren Jian, by Feng Ren Zuo Shu will have a November release in English.

Via Douqi on Bluesky, “Pre-orders also open for baihe contemporary romance Her Various Moments (她的山海朝夕) by Hua Yu (华予), originally serialised as The Green Pear Pub (青梨酒馆 ).” This is a Chinese release.

Yuri Visual Novels & Games

Studio Élan has released Upwards, Rain! The Post Office of Farewells, which Staff Writer Eleanor Walker reviewed when the staff took a group look at Élan’s Dandelion Set.

LGBTQ+ streaming service GagaOOLaLa, is also offering a free serial code to Yuri game Tied by your Red to VIP members through July 17! Reviews look very positive overall.

Koi Yori Aoku, Volume 2  (恋より青く) Girls from two different schools grown closer in this school days story.

Muryoku Seijo to Munou Oujo ~ Maryoku Zero de Shoukansareta Seijo no Isekai Kyuukokuki, Volume 2 (~無力聖女と無能王女～魔力ゼロで召喚された聖女の異世界救国記～) Nana and Princess Luriam are called to a village to defeat the miasma poisoning their food and water.

Thai GL Live Action

Via Sr. YNN Correspondent Frank Hecker, There are two Thai series premiering this month. The first: Only You from Channel 3 Thailand, starring LingLing Sirilak Kwong and Orm Kornnaphat Sethratanapong (LingOrm) as a bodyguard and the celebrity she’s protecting. Beginning July 18 on the 3Plus app. Teaser trailer with English subtitles is up on Youtube.

Harmony Secret from Change2561, starring Lookmhee Punyapat Wangpongsathaporn and Sonya Saranphat Pedersen (LMSY) as business rivals. Beginning July 26 on iQiyi. Teaser trailer also on Youtube.

Yuri Light Novels

Tensei Oujo to Tensai Reijou no Mahou Kakumei, Volume 11 ( 転生王女と天才令嬢の魔法革命) has hi JP shelves.

Yuri Visual Novels

Two very different new Yuri visual novels are now available on the Yuricon store:

Three Peach Hill is a cozy, feel-good lesbian romance visual novel about a fox spirit and the human girl who woos her.

A Tithe in Blood is a dark yuri visual novel about a quiet university student who discovers blood magic in the depths of her grief. Stepping into a world she little understands, Honoka finds unexpected love, and inadvertently sets in motion a deadly series of events.

Via High on Lullabies on the Okazu Discord, we have an ongoing Toxic Yuri VN Jam. I’m not here to yuck anyone’s yum but this is definitely not for me.

We also have a full release of Upwards, Rain! from Studio Elan. I personally reviewed this one as part of a group review of Studio Elan’s Dandelion set last year and enjoyed it a lot so I’ll be getting this new version for sure.

Team ANPIM are bringing us an “Adult Life Yuri Bundle“ which also has my interest and is set to release on the 8th July.

Kodansha USA are bring us a new series from Sal Jiang, creator of the original manga Ayaka Is In Love With Hiroko, which is now a popular drama, entitled Wicked Spot (Volume 1 reviewed by Erica in Japanese) and from author Sometime Suoh, whose previous work Superwomen in Love has been released in English, comes a dark fantasy yuri romcom called Marrying the Dark Knight (For Her Money). Yuri Manga

SHWD: The Complete Yuri Collection is out from Seven Seas. I really enjoyed this series by sono.N about burly, but very sweet, women who fight against a monstrous foe.

The Next Manga Award nominations are out and a number of Yuri manga appear in both print and online categories. Interestingly, YNN Correspondent Akastukinoluna mentioned one on the Okazu Discord which is actually nominated on the Web manga category, so check out Kono Koi o Hoshi ni wa Negawanai (この恋を星には願わない). 

Also announced this week is the America Manga Awards nominations and The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t A Guy At All is up for Best New Title! I am incredibly honored to be able to vote for the AMAs this year. In fact, I voted for the Eisners and the AMAs this year, and wow, what a thrill, every time. ANN’s Alex Mateo has the full line-up. Everything is so good.

Nakafuji Nui’s  Toi Et Moi, (トワ・エ・モア) – which I believe I read in Galette magazine –  is being published online on Kodansha’s Palcy. Hat tip to Akastukinoluna for this link as well.

Yuri Visual Novel

Via YNN Correspondent Roxie, Yuri VN Eclipse has launched an extremely impressive Kickstarter. “Under the blessing of La, the one true god, women have peacefully ruled the world for over a millennium. Guarded by Eclipse, a special forces unit composed solely of women gifted with Supernatural Powers, peace seemed eternal—until now.”  Check out the kickstarter for videos, great character designs and watch the demo playthrough on Youtube. Their initial goal has been made with 25 days left!

Via YNN Correspondent High on Lullabies, Sounds Of Her Love 2, is available on Steam.”A cute romance visual novel set at an international school in Japan. ANN’s Crystalynn Hodgkins has the scoop on the new trailer and end song for See You Tomorrow at the Food Court anime.

Weirdly, everyone BUT Crunchyroll news is announcing that Crunchyroll has acquired the rights for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid movie to get a theatrical release. So here’s Alex Mateo on that.

Other News

Toei has announced a full release of all the Sukeban Deka (スケバン刑事) television series in a remastered Blu-Ray box set. The Toei shop does use Buyee, so overseas fans can buy it.

Animate HQ in Ikebukuro celebrated the upcoming No Freakin Way I’ll Be Your Lover, Unless… anime with this display of the manga in their Yuribu! ^_^

ANN’s This Week In Anime is pulling out the Pride flag in TWIA: Manga to Show Your Pride, Lucas and Steve discuss their queer manga picks. I want to give props for the intro pointing out that probably most of anime/manga fandom knows it is Pride month, thus leaving anyone who wants to melt down over this as a fringe weirdo..because, yes.

Yuri Manga

Top story today is Seven Seas announcing the license of Koharu and Minato: My Partner Is A Girl, the comic essay serialized in Comic Yuri Hime about two women, how they met, dated and moved in and their happy everyday life. I reviewed Volume 1 in Japanese here on Okazu last July and found it to be comfortable and pleasant manga. Look for that to hit shelves in spring 2026!

Via YNN Correspondent waffle.zone on the Okazu Discord, Momozerii’s High-Class Homos webtoon is now out in print. “Princess Sapphia is decidedly not into princes, or any boys for that matter. So when her parents begin to push her to marriage, she quickly enlists her equally gay best friend to organize a sham marriage, navigate life and love, and hopefully get the girl.” Sapphia, LOL.

Yurinoko (ユリノコ) is a collected volume of Yuri suspense between two girls and one extra creepy doll. Thanks, Comic Natalie, for that news. ^_^;

Queer media streaming service GagaOOLala has picked up Ayaka-chan Is In Love With Hiroko 2 which moves past the text of the Saj Jiang manga (which I reviewed here: Volume 1 | Volume 2 | Volume 3) and into Ayaka and Hiroko dating. I’m going to subscribe for that. I watched the original on a JP streaming channel. 

Kickstarter for Yuri movie, Her kiss,my libido twinkles (彼女のくちづけ感染するリビドー) has 6 days to go and is less than $30 away from unlocking the next stretch goal of everyone at a 3000 yen backer level and above receiving a free download of the movie with EN subtitles.

Our Sr. East Asian Live-Action reviewer here, Frank Hecker has this reminder for folks: For anyone doing a trial subscription to GagaOOLala in order to watch Ayaka Is in Love with Hiroko, a reminder that it also has the Taiwanese series Fragrance of the First Flower, which is truly excellent . Yuriten will be coming to Nagoya and Sendai, according to their official X account.  Nagoya is lined up for June 20 -22 and Sendai has a one-day visit at the Michinoku COMITIA on July 13.

Girls Love Fest 44 is on June 29, in Keikyu Kamata, Ota Ward, Tokyo, Sangyo Plaza PiO.

I will be presenting at CitrusCon on June 21, about the origins of Yuri fandom and our current demographics. CitrusCon is free online, but you do have to register!

Yuri Anime

There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover, Unless… has revealed new cast, songs, and a July 7 start date says Joanana Cayanan at ANN.

And….it looks like we’ll be getting a new Kaleido Star anime. I will love and hate it and rage about it, no doubt. ^_^;

Volisia of Pluto‘s second chapter is up on Youtube with EN subtitles for a limited time. (Why? Who knows.) Crystalynn Hodgkins has details on ANN. Cryssoberyl reviewed the first chapter here back in 2023.

ANN’s Alex Mateo has the visuals and trailer for See You At The Food Court Tomorrow anime, which is also getting a July 7th debut in Japan.

Vivian Kleinman’s documentary about creators of American queer comics, and Gay Comix, No Straight Lines, is once again available to stream for free on PBS. If you are out of the US, grab your VPN and watch it! It is fantastic. I gave it a 10/10 when I reviewed it here on Okazu.

Not specifically for Pride month, but it will take me months to catch up. I opened a thread of 1 like=1 obscure Yuri review from Okazu archives on Bluesky. There are well over 200 likes and I’m about 50 entries in, as this last week I was on the road again. But it is a fun way to celebrate how far we’ve come in the last 20+ years of Yuri.
