Maria-sama ga Miteru News, Yuricon News

December 2nd, 2007

Many of you will have already read this, but for those of you who have not, Pizza Hut and the makers of Maria-sama ga Miteru have announced a co-promotional campaign. Fans can get Marimite themed pizza boxes with series-related goods, and enter a contest to win other items. For more details, you can read the Anime News Network article here.

Marimite is hardly the first to do a Pizza Hut campaign in Japan – the product was notably placed in Code Geass, but it does seem a really unlikely one at first thought, doesn’t it? It’s difficult to imagine the ladies of Lillian eating Pizza Hut, although not at all hard to imagine their hordes of fanboys doing so. lol

I also note that there will be a Winterket special DJCD which I’ll be darn sure to try and nab for myself while I’m there!

This is sort of anti-news, but I want to let everyone know that I’m pulling the RSS newsfeed from the Yuricon website. I haven’t had the time to keep it up to date at all, and I’m more likely to post here. So, as of today, Okazu is the official outlet for Yuri news for Yuricon.

While I’m on the topic of the Yuricon site, I also want to mention that we have a project that we’ve just started to translate chunks of the Yuricon site into Japanese. It’s in the very first stages now, but going forward into 2008, you can look for “Nihingo” links to the Japanese-language versions of the home page and inwards from there. :-)

I promise, an actual review will be forthcoming today as well. :-)

News from the Yurisphere

November 7th, 2007

A couple of news items of interest that I wanted to throw your way today!

Eriko Tadeno, author/artist of the collection Works, and contributor to Yuri Monogatari 5, has been interviewed by Polish magazine “Comix Grrrlz.” Thanks to Sylwia for the link! This review is in Polish, so don’t be surprised.

Dedicated reader and Yuri fan Eric P points out that Love My Life, the live action movie based upon the Yuri manga of the same name by Yamaji Ebine, (here’s my review of the movie) has been starting to pop up at Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Trans Film Festivals in North America. It’s already been screened in Tampa and at Outfest. ANN Previously reported that Wolfe Video licensed it, so keep an eye out for a North American release.

Download the new Yuricon toolbar! In the never-ending quest to provide both good information and a lively community, I have developed a Yuricon toolbar which is now available for download at: http://yuricon.communitytoolbars.com/. There are toolbar versions for M$IE and Firefox, which works on Linux and Macs, I’ve been told. The toolbar includes a search box, messaging, an Okazu headline ticker and a Yuricon Chat. (I’ve been looking to do a chat for some time and this seemed like an interesting experiment.) The rules of the chat are the same as those on the Yuricon Mailing List.

The search box utilizes the custom Yuri search engine I built – which is also located on the Yuricon Site Map, so the results will be very anime/manga-centric. You can also search for reusults within the Yuricon site, as well.

Feel free to download and play around with it – tell friends who are interested in Yuri and want to chat, send messages or just search for Yuri online. :-)

And thanks to eagle-eyed Erin S. for pointing out that a Spanish scanlation group has received permission from Rica Takashima to scanlate Rica ‘tte Kanji!? in Spanish. I know that Yuri has a huge Spanish-speaking following, so cool for them! :-) And thanks to Erin for the news! Here’s the link to the thread on the CoYuHi forums.

Yuricon & ALC Publishing at MangaNEXT

October 5th, 2007

Yuricon & ALC Publishing, in the usual form of me and my minion(s), will be making an appearance tomorrow, Saturday October 6 at MangaNEXT in Secaucus, NJ.

I and brilliant fanfic writer Adam Jones will be discussing Fanfiction at the unholy hour of 10AM in the Fanfiction Panel.

After that, we will be relaxing in the Artist’s Alley, where will not only have Yuri Monogatari 5 for sale, but also a nice selection of original and parody doujinshi, including some very awesome work by UKOZ, Sakuraike and Office Mono, Tadeno Eriko’s circle. All five artists are featured in Yuri Monogatari 5 and all are genuinely exceptional. (Or I wouldn’t have their doujinshi for sale, would I? lol)

At 5PM, join us for the Yuri Panel, where we will be discussing some of the good, bad and ugly (but mostly the good) Yuri manga available in English and Japanese!

MangaNEXT is the only manga-focused event in the US and it’s run by a terrific group of folks, so drop by and support them (and us!) See you there!

Events:Yurisai Schedule Online

September 25th, 2007

Thanks to Eric’s timely reminder (thank you!) the Yurisai Schedule is now available online. There’s no link to it yet from the Yuricon website – but you can access the Yurisai Schedule directly. Links to it from several pages on the site will go up when I get home.

You may notice that the panels are rather longer than usual – this is not meant to imply that the panels will be longer than usual. LOL

What we’ve done is built in some ease-in and ease-out time for the panels, time for more informal, unstructured discussion to happen, as it always does. Basically, we ddn’t want us all to have to be frenetic about panels starting on time. ~_-

And while we will absolutely be encouraging folks to participate fully in all the kinds of activities we have, (with prizes at the end of the day for people who have managed to – literally – fill their dance card,) we really hope that everyone just has a chance to do a little of everything. Mostly, we hope that everyone has a chance to kick back and chat with other folks who are fans, too. :-)

The goal at Yurisai is to have a relaxing, fun day, with lots of Yuri to enjoy.

So, enjoy!
