Yuri Anime

ANN reports that Universal Studios Japan is hosting the K-ON! cast accompanying an installation of life-sized (but not realistically proportioned) statues of the characters. The K-ON! movie debuted today in Japan yesterday. ^_^ I’m pretty sure I heard the screaming over here.

If you’re around Ikebukuro at then end of the year, take a trip over to Sunshine City, where in the Cultural Hall you’ll find a Madoka Magica Exhibit. A map has been released with exhibit info. (The first time I ever walked into that space, there was a Sailor Moon festival going on. You cannot tell me there wasn’t a god involved with that. ^_^)

The 2nd Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha movie will have a summer release. I cannot wait. Sadly I won’t make it over there to see it, so will have to wait for the DVD release again. Boo-hoo.

And fans of Strike Witches will be thrilled to hear that the second Box Set will include an English dub and subtitles.

Yuri Manga

Now this sounds a bit different, in a completely not different way – Centaur no Ayami ( セントールの悩み) is a typical highschool Yuri love story, starring magical creatures. The heroine is, as the title spoils, a centaur. If you’re a hooves and horns fan, this looks like a good bet. I’m on the fence about it, myself, so if you do get it and want to write a review, let me know!

Morita-san ha Mukuchi (森田さんは無口) is headed for a 5th volume.

Akira to Hiyori (アキラとひより) is two-volume Yuri love story by Kirihara Izumi. Volume 1 and
Volume 2 have been all over the Japanese Yuri lists.

OKS books is putting out an 18+ Yuri collection called Shiroyuri Girls Love Paradise (白百合Girls Love Paradise). This is explicitly (hah hah) targeted towards guys, so I’d expect lots of uncomfortable groping and bodily fluids, and less pleasant-looking sex.

Yuri Game

Liar, the folks that brought us Sapphism no Gensou has a new Yuri game, Okujou no Yurirei-san. Erm, “Yuri Spirits on the Roof.” Cute art, I’d love to have a review of this too, if someone is planning on getting it.

Other News

In a blatant attempt to prove that I really do read manga that has nothing at all to do with Yuri, I’ve written an article for Hooded Utilitarian this month that teaches you how to be a pretentious git about food and drink, the manga way: Eat, Drink, Read Manga.

I really wish Bandai was quicker at releasing the K-On TV series, then maybe the movie would be here sooner.

You are not the only one eagerly awaiting Nanoha the Movie 2nd’s DVD release. I realy love how the first movie focused on what the fans wanted, Nanoha and Fate’s relationship and gigantic mecha series inspired magical girl fights! ^_^

I don’t think Strike Witches fans, like me, are thrilled at the $470 price tag! Are the disks made out of gold and school girls’ panties? Are Blu-ray disks that expensive in Japan?!

Since Morita-san is getting another volume of manga, I can hope that the anime will continue. Its easly in my top three for 2011. I know it can be kind of plotless but its three minutes of condensed fun and cuteness.

Ok that picture on the front page of Okujou no Yurirei-san’s official website has peaked my interest. I am assuming that the two girls in the classic style sailor sefuku type uniforms sitting on the roof are in fact ghosts. My theory is the story is about a couple girls who were lovers during their school days long long ago, possibly in the golden age of S-Class literature before the war. Now reunited in the afterlife they watch over the girls that attend their school in the present and support their relationships from the beyond. Of course if that is not the story, then someone needs to make that story.

LOL! I had *exactly* the same thought. ^_^

I think that could be what the story IS about, Felix. It sure looks like that.

I want a story like this!

That reminds me of a hetero romance fantasy I once read starring a centaur heroine (Brighid’s Quest by P.C. Cast). Cast musta wondered what it would be like to be a centaur. Stairs are an issue.

So yeah, other readers, if you do get it and want to write a review, keep an eye out for stairs. ;)

Akira to Hiyori is as far from a Yuri love story as one could possibly imagine; one of the main characters falls in love with a guy, and while the other one suffers from a slight case of confused feelings caused by jealousy, they resolve to be friends forever, while the first one continues to be in love with the guy. The end.

It’s not Yuri and most certainly not a Yuri love story by any stretch of imagination.

  6. @Anonymous – Thank you for the heads up! It’s been on all the Yuri lists…now I wonder why?
