There’s a bunch of weird timing things that have kept me from writing you a review for a few days. (Nothing serious, just one of those things.) Tonight I had the pleasure of joining Lissa Patillo (kuriousity) and Zac Bertschy (ANNZac) for the ANN podcast. So, I don’t have a review for you tonight. But, I shared some info on the podcast that I wanted to share with you, as well.
Right now, there is a World-wide Sailor Moon revival going on. How cool is that?

Mexico and Hong Kong, Nordic Countries – Anime
Italy – Anime and Manga and a Nintendo DS game, Sailor Moon la Luna Splende.
One of the things discussed was how ripe Sailor Moon is for a complete animation re-boot. It’s just a fantasy, but how fun is it to imagine Sailor Moon with updated animation techniques and a more explicitly “couple” relationship between Haruka and Michiru. Nice, huh? Alas, still fantasy at the moment…just remember, if you light a candle in your mind, no one can make you put it out. ^_^

This is so exciting! I have all of the old Mixx SM volumes, but I think it’s high time for a new translation…
I wonder if the DS game will be released in English eventually? And why Italy? Is SM particularly popular there?
@apricotsushi – In a word, yes. Italy has a very strong market for shoujo manga and is a major market for Sailor Moon.
Considering all the various reboots, continuations, and remakes anime has been getting lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a Sailor Moon Kai/Brotherhood/Final Act etc. or even a “Rebuild of Sailor Moon” of sorts.
More good news for the Kodansha NA releases this fall. Amazon just sent me an email saying my pre-orders qualify for release date delivery. Which is a nice bonus, so I thought I’d pass the word along here.
Let the Revival continue!
It’s a classic because it set the trend for its genre. However, nowadays we’re at a point where shows like Madoka succeed because it breaks out of the confines of the genre, so I don’t think a reboot would be too popular. There’s also the issue of getting all those seiyuus back again.
But then again, DBZ got its “digitally” enhanced version. That’s the most I would hope for for Sailormoon.
@Anonymous Hopefully Toei’s learned from Kai’s mistakes, and actually gives Sailor Moon a proper remake.
OK, now that it’s obviously standing the test of time, sooner or later it (if not the whole series, then a sample that still leaves room for some other material in a semester) will be on some university course syllabi…
