Adventure Time Ends With a Kiss

September 5th, 2018

This week saw the end of Adventure Time‘s 10-year run. In a special finale, we finally got confirmation of the the ‘ship we all knew existed. Heck, they even knew it in Japan where I saw this tote bag back in 2016:

And now, as the series ends, everyone knows that PB and Marceline are a couple. Well, we knew that all along, but now folks who spend their energy denying the obvious will have one more couple they have to check off their “we’re not sure yet, need more proof” list. ^_^

Take a a look at this tweet and remember that, despite all the bad things happening right now, there is good in the world- and an awful lot of that good is in the form of comics and cartoons.

And that, as they say is that.

I am glad that Rebecca Sugar is a good bit braver and out-er with Steven Universe than she has been with Adventure Time. Wonder what the difference between the two shows’ productions staffs (Staves? Surely not.) is.

Still glad to see lesbian AT fans get a walk-off home run with Bubbline.

Unlike the Legend of Korra’s October, nope, 11:59pm on the first Monday in November, Surprise, this one didn’t make me go binge the entire run of the show again.

I may be a bottomless pit of want want want, but SU is really the only US cartoon that does not rely on subtext, headcanon, and tossing lesbian viewers an occasional bone for its representation. And, the Utena nods are awesome.

I may be way past adolescence, but I am down with 20GayTeen.

    • Sugar was a staff member on AT, she wasn’t calling the shots. She’s the creator, exec producer and writer for Steven Universe, so she’s is in a position to make things happen. There’s actual power in positions of power. ^_^
