Yuri Visual Novel

Studio Élan announces the release date for their Yuri Visual Novel, Heart of the Woods and the ED by In Love With A Ghost, a snippet of which is available on their soundcloud. The VN will release on February 15 on Steam. You can access the demo there as well.

The website for Sukerasparo’s supernatural Yuri adventure Dantano Folklore is open, with plot and main character visuals.

I haven’t really followed up on this, but is appears that Nico Nico Douga had a broadcast for fans of the Sonohanabira VNs, with the name Lilies Swamp Game Show Channel (this link goes to the Youtube recording of the broadcast.) this news comes from the Twitter feed of NicoNico Douga’s Yuri-Game Love Channel, which seems like a good resource if you like that kind of thing! ^_^

Via YNN Correspondent Sean G, Mangamer is releasing Kindred Spirits on the Roof Full Chorus, a fully voiced version of the Visual Novel. Will my dream come true? Aki’s final monologue spoken? Mangagamer is offering an “upgrade” to the fully voiced version. I might take them up on it.

Yuri Manga

Sparkler Monthly has announced an upcoming Kickstarter for a Before You Go graphic novel. Denise Schroeder’s sweet Yuri comic deserves a collected work and I’m looking forward to having it all in one volume.

The next Yuri + Kanojo anthology is available, Yuri + Kanojo – Kossori Kisushite – ( 百合+カノジョ -こっそりキスして-) with a focus on the end of relationships, rather than the beginnings. Sounds cheerful.

Yuri Anime

namori’s Yuruyuri is 10 years old and is getting a Kickstarter of its very own to fund a new animation. ANN has the details.

Other News

The February Issue of SF Magazine, which is a special Yuri issue, includes an interview with the editor in chief of Comic Yuri Hime, among others, Comic Natalie reports.

Here’s a question I bet you get a lot. I was going to ask at the stream the other day, but slept through it *oops* :)

Why is there so little middle ground in sexuality and sensuality between mostly chaste with maybe a kiss, and full on hardcore porn? Why is it so rare to find things where sex happens, definitively, without having to see it all in extreme detail? I find this true in het manga/anime/vns too, but F/F is my end of the spectrum, so. :)

    • CW says:

That middle ground isn’t particularly rare.

Some examples of current yuri series where it’s clear characters have had sex but aren’t “full on hardcore porn”:

      Hayama-sensei to Terano-sensei wa Tsukiatteru
      Salad Bowl
      Scarlet
      Yurikon
Tsuki to Koi wa Michireba Kakeru
      Mizuno to Chayama
      Warui Onna no Ko
      Barikyari to Shinsotsu
      Kase-san series
Kago no Shoujo wa Koi o Suru
      Cheerful Amnesia
      Dousei Seikatsu

      • A lot of those aren’t out in English, to be fair. And this is all a very new thing in Yuri. When Americans are getting Citrus and NTR, it’s not that surprising that they don’t know the stuff Im talking about…yet. Here’s hoping that we some of it in the west.

And we can’t discount personal opinion. Some of the titles you suggested I would not have. A lot of what people mean when they ask questions like this is “Why can’t I get – without too much effort or expense on my part – exactly what I want to see?

        • CW says:

I don’t think the middle ground is rare among English licensed titles either (especially contrasted with hardcore porn yuri). The middle ground includes the likes of Sweet Blue Flowers, Girl Friends, Murcielago, Hana & Hina After School, Kase-san, NTR, and After Hours.

          • See, if you count NTR among middle ground titles, we disagree about the definition of “middle ground.” I saw NTR as straight up abuse, emotional manipulation and sexual harassment. This is why answers to questions like this must acknowledge that opinions are individual, not universal. ^_^

          • CW says:

I’m not bringing some kind of personal opinion of mine about what counts as the “middle ground”. Here it’s the first post which gives the criteria. NTR fits it.

    • That’s one of those questions that is best answered by the concept of “lowest common denominator” is a real thing. Companies creates products and things that can sell to the lowest common denominator do better than things that appeal to a select audience. This is ahy ambiguity was common in Yuri back in the day. If I say Nanoha and Fate as a couple and you say Nanoha and Yuuno as a couple and we both were happy to buy the work, the company wins
