Maria-sama ga Miteru News, Yuricon News

December 2nd, 2007

Many of you will have already read this, but for those of you who have not, Pizza Hut and the makers of Maria-sama ga Miteru have announced a co-promotional campaign. Fans can get Marimite themed pizza boxes with series-related goods, and enter a contest to win other items. For more details, you can read the Anime News Network article here.

Marimite is hardly the first to do a Pizza Hut campaign in Japan – the product was notably placed in Code Geass, but it does seem a really unlikely one at first thought, doesn’t it? It’s difficult to imagine the ladies of Lillian eating Pizza Hut, although not at all hard to imagine their hordes of fanboys doing so. lol

I also note that there will be a Winterket special DJCD which I’ll be darn sure to try and nab for myself while I’m there!

This is sort of anti-news, but I want to let everyone know that I’m pulling the RSS newsfeed from the Yuricon website. I haven’t had the time to keep it up to date at all, and I’m more likely to post here. So, as of today, Okazu is the official outlet for Yuri news for Yuricon.

While I’m on the topic of the Yuricon site, I also want to mention that we have a project that we’ve just started to translate chunks of the Yuricon site into Japanese. It’s in the very first stages now, but going forward into 2008, you can look for “Nihingo” links to the Japanese-language versions of the home page and inwards from there. :-)

I promise, an actual review will be forthcoming today as well. :-)

News from the Yurisphere

November 7th, 2007

A couple of news items of interest that I wanted to throw your way today!

Eriko Tadeno, author/artist of the collection Works, and contributor to Yuri Monogatari 5, has been interviewed by Polish magazine “Comix Grrrlz.” Thanks to Sylwia for the link! This review is in Polish, so don’t be surprised.

Dedicated reader and Yuri fan Eric P points out that Love My Life, the live action movie based upon the Yuri manga of the same name by Yamaji Ebine, (here’s my review of the movie) has been starting to pop up at Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Trans Film Festivals in North America. It’s already been screened in Tampa and at Outfest. ANN Previously reported that Wolfe Video licensed it, so keep an eye out for a North American release.

Download the new Yuricon toolbar! In the never-ending quest to provide both good information and a lively community, I have developed a Yuricon toolbar which is now available for download at: http://yuricon.communitytoolbars.com/. There are toolbar versions for M$IE and Firefox, which works on Linux and Macs, I’ve been told. The toolbar includes a search box, messaging, an Okazu headline ticker and a Yuricon Chat. (I’ve been looking to do a chat for some time and this seemed like an interesting experiment.) The rules of the chat are the same as those on the Yuricon Mailing List.

The search box utilizes the custom Yuri search engine I built – which is also located on the Yuricon Site Map, so the results will be very anime/manga-centric. You can also search for reusults within the Yuricon site, as well.

Feel free to download and play around with it – tell friends who are interested in Yuri and want to chat, send messages or just search for Yuri online. :-)

And thanks to eagle-eyed Erin S. for pointing out that a Spanish scanlation group has received permission from Rica Takashima to scanlate Rica ‘tte Kanji!? in Spanish. I know that Yuri has a huge Spanish-speaking following, so cool for them! :-) And thanks to Erin for the news! Here’s the link to the thread on the CoYuHi forums.

Yuri Monogatari News

September 14th, 2007

A couple of quickie items today.

Somewhat belatedly, I have learned that Yuri Monogatari 3 was nominated for this year’s Lambda Book Award from the Lambda Literary Foundation, the country’s leading organization for LGBT literature. While YM3 did not win, merely being nominated is a tremendous honor! Congratuations to everyone who contributed to YM3! If YM5 gets a similar honor, I *promise* to announce it earlier! -_-;;

And secondly, the newest member of this award-nominated series, Yuri Monogatari 5 will be making its official premiere at Yuricon’s 2007 “Yurisai” Event! We’ll have no less than 5 contributors to the Yuri Monogatari series at the event – this is your best chance to get copies autographed by the artists who make this such a fantastic (and notable) series!

Okazu News: 5th anniversary ahoy!

August 7th, 2007

I just happened to notice last night that we are only a few posts away from the 800th post here on Okazu and, coincidentally, one week from today is Okazu’s 5th anniversary. (No, I won’t be forcing the two things to land on the same day.)

Wow.

800 rambling, incoherent opinions about nothing much, over 5 years! What a total waste of time. LOL On the other hand, I have met many, many of you, my dear readers, and that has been a pleasure and not a waste of time at *all*.

Since we have a week left and I love prezzies, how about some 5th anniversary art? I think it would be nice if the art illustrated the theme “Hungry for Yuri? Have some Okazu” in some way. It could be the blog seen on a computer screen, a word in an ad, a typical Okazu meal being shared by two women, or the faboo Yuri Okazu designed by my wife (which can be seen above and has a place of honor in the in the downloadable banner on the sidebar or the scrolling headline banner the bottom of the page) as part of the picture. However you want. Fan or original art (fan art of Yuriko and Midori or any series, whatever you want.)

You can email any 5th anniversary art to me at anilesbocon01 at hotmail.com . Include contact information, please, because there’s a high likelihood that I’ll send out a thank-you prize or two. :-)

Good lord. 5 years of this. lol

Yuri Anime Licensing News – Anime Expo 2007

July 5th, 2007

Well, Anime Expo is over and there are a few series licenses that were announced that will be of interest to the Yuri community. Since I already discussed Seven Seas Yuri manga licenses here, I thought I’d summarize the Yuri anime licenses, too:

ADV – ADV announced that they have licensed Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora, Kaishaku’s most recent series. Although I do not hesitate to say that this series was laughably bad, I absolutely maintain that it was better than everything other Kaishaku anime in terms of internal consistency and sensibleness. AND the Yuri storyline was pretty good! If you liked Chikane and Himeko in Kannazuki no Miko you ought to like Kaon and Himiko here.

Geneon – No Maria-sama ga Miteru announcement as of yet, but based on the Q&A at the panel, they haven’t killed the idea or anything. Instead, Geneon licensed Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and the second and infinitely better season Nanoha As. Third season (and even better than the former two) StrikerS wasn’t included in this particular announcement. But now that we’ve seen Nanoha and Fate as lesbian moms, we might as well look back fondly on their early relationship. :-) To be honest, I’ll probably like this series better this time around, knowing that it does go somewhere and does get better.

Funimation – Although this will not be something I will purchase, Funimation announced the license to the Negima! anime. Konoka and Setsuna fans will surely be happy. (I’ve never reviewed the anime for this – nor do I plan to. If you’re interested in doing a Guest Review for Negima! contact me.)

Media Blasters – Our buddies at Media Blasters took my suggestions to heart, I see. :-) They had an awesomely Yuri-ful announcements list starting with Strawberry Panic! and including the ever more service-y Otome ha Boku (Onee-sama) ni Koishiteru (another series I’m not planning on reviewing, so feel free to send in a Guest review), and Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny. While Otoboku is not something I’ll be reviewing, as it’s based on a game where the main character is a boy dressing like a girl to fulfill the plot complication, the “Yuri” in the series comes in the form of the girls who fall in love with what they think is a girl. It’s real, if stoopid. And of course Ikkitousen is a thin plot connected by breasts, underwear and unresolved Yuri longing on the part of Kanu Unchou. Most popularly, we can once again enjoy the open theft of concepts, characters and whole storylines from earlier Yuri anime and manga series in Strawberry Panic!. :-)

So – some stuff to look forward too, albeit all quite servicey, where Yuri is one more fetish in the long list of fetishes catered to. ^_^
